Do these attach to the dog's collar or do you need a harness too ?

NEVER EVER attach any car restraint to your dog's collar. In the event of having to brake severely or a collision there is a real risk of serious injury or even death from a broken neck. These restraints should ONLY ever be attached to a harness and in my opinion all such products should state this clearly

Can I use this for dog who sits in the well of the car

I would say this would not expand enough to reach the footwell on its own.Again it may depend what size car you have .some harnesses come with an extension so may be long enough then .Sue

What type of harness do people recommend for use with this headrest attachment? I have a Labrador so he's fairly large.

Any type of harness that’s comfortable for your dog will work fine with this attachment .

How do you adjust the length of these? they look way too long and one size does not fit all. dogs will hit the seat infront on impact

They do adjust a bit but if your dog is a bouncy dog then they are best sitting in the boot while using these . However the cord is elasticated like a bungy cord so if there is an impact it will act as a safety belt and pull back . I wouldn't recommend a tiny breed using one they would normally be in a secure seat carry box . For bigger dogs they are fantastic . Hope this helps .
