Magic That Works: Practical Training for the Children of Light

My best analogy would be related to Math and Science
Normally, I do not write reviews but this author deserves a very positive review. The knowledge in this book is what I have searched for in a lifetime. The fact that I do not know Arabic has made that search daunting and almost impossible while keeping a regular lifestyle. I gave up on such books about 20 years ago. Occult books were not for me. Elaborate plays designed to bring some small amount of interaction with the "spirit" world was ridiculous and even dangerous in my mind. This book is not another ridiculous mass produced occult book.My background is in science and cross referencing sources is habitual and automatic. Every time I reference terminology in this book the author has been right or interprets it along a line of thought that is agreeable to me. The work that he has done is immense and astounding to me. He does not provide the background information for most of the techniques. This information is immense and sometimes nearly impossible to find. This is no spoon fed guide and requires a lot of work on your own in order to understand the techniques. But if you put forth the effort you will be guided as to where to look for answers. This book has no simple "system" or formula but instead gives you a real working knowledge. My best analogy would be related to Math and Science. In Pre-Algebra you just blindly follow steps while someone studying Calculus based physics begins to have a working knowledge. This book is Calc based Physics readying you for the real undertaking of more intricate spiritual practices.

Interesting Title
New and arrived on time. Only purchased to add to collection. The book cover is what caught my attention. I have not read this book.

A great alternative.
Despite the slightly corny cover and title of this book, it's really a fabulous book which could easily become a classic, and probably should. This book accomplishes several things. First, and perhaps foremost, it provides another alternative for solo hermetic magical work, from the ground up, other than Crowley or the cobbled-together and often excessive Golden Dawn work. Secondly, it provides an alternative to the Abremalin working, for finding one's HGA. Third, it gives us a small window into an authentic Arabic/Middleastern Hermetica, and, after all, European Hermetica has it's roots in Arabic Hermetica, even if practitioners are largely unaware of this. The authors of this work are clearly accomplished and serious magicians themselves, and while this book is a fine beginner's book, much of the information and work could be considered remedial for already accomplished magicians. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase of this book, and I anticipate other works from the authors with enthusiasm. I hope that in the future, we may see some good translations of Arabic or Farsi source texts and grimoires.

A GREAT BOOK OF WHITE MAGIC
I had the opportunity to read this book because a friend lent it to me, this circumstance led me to wanting to buy mine. I can say that this is one of the best books on positive and charitable magic that I have read till now. If you are a searcher of this knowledge, but you do not want to transgress the universal laws and perhaps up to anything worse, this book offers you a way of light and marvels.

Loved it
Very practical. Easy to use and not a lot of hard to find items or complicated rituals. Very powerful rituals that work and good information included too.

Fresh yet Familiar!
Magic that works is a surprisingly dense book packed with fresh ideas and technniques. These were "fresh" to me but much of the teachings of the book are actually drawn from mostly untapped resources of Chaldaen origin as brought through a lineage of Arabic Magicians. This material also often puts a new slant on or rectifies the more familiar Hebrew/Qabalistic magic that is used in most western mystery traditions. Even with these many re-newed techniques, there is plenty of familiar territory for anyone who has studied materials from Golden Dawn, Aurum Solis, or Thelema so as to enhance and augment seasoned practioners. They have duly noted similarities and borrowings from familiar Golden Dawn rituals. Why challange what works? But at the same time there are many avenues of thought as well. It covers the range of being useful for beginners as well as for the more experienced practioner and supplies enough to experiment with to keep one busy for a good long time! Don't be fooled by the cover or the title - this is a serious book with some serious thought and experience put into it.

Interesting book, but flawed
Ok, this is on the whole is a good book, however I do have a couple of problems with it. Firstly the good. This is a study of many topics and has a varied range of subjects. Niniveh conveys complicated formula in an easy to understand way. His writing is eloquent, with plenty of examples, which makes it easy to follow. He obviously knows a wide range of magical practices. There in lies the problem. This book is an overview of many things and as such it doesn’t give an in-depth insight into any of them. There is also information that is just plain wrong. I don’t know much about most of the subjects in this book but I do know the Qabalah. His section on this contains basic errors. Geburah being equated to the left side of the body for instance. Netzach to the right. You normally back yourself into the tree of life and not frontal generate it, therefore geburah although viewed on the left, when you back into it, equates to the right. A basic Qabalistic cross confirms this. As a Golden Dawn adept, he should know this. This makes me wonder what else has he got wrong ? I don’t know, because it’s not my area of expertise. What I do know is, that if working with Jinn, you better be damn sure the information is correct. This has left me doubting this book, and some of the knowledge within it.?

Excellent work on Middle Eastern Magic
I have not finished reading this book yet as I am about half way through it, but what an excellent book it is. I gave this book 4 stars out of 5, and would of easily given it 5 out of 5 but because of the actual quality of the pages and cover I didn't. Now that may sound a bit harsh, but because the contents of this book are so good, I will be forever delving back into its pages because this is one of those books that will be used alot, especially if you are a practical magician. So it really should of been published as a HB, especially because of the recomended ritual that turns this book into a living workable talisman. The contents about angels and the jinn is very informative indeed and also very practical. It is one of those books that you can't put down and also, can't wait to put into practice. There is so much useful information that can also be applied to other systems of magic.I have not come across much written about the jinn or how to work with them before, but this book has changed that. While reading it, it has also been shedding a bit of light upon my own magical workings that I have done and giving me plenty of food for thought. The good thing about this book is that it is ideal for someone just starting out on the magical path but it is also very useful for the more experienced practitioner too.Darren

Magic That Works
This book arrived yesterday so I am still reading it. So far I am impressed and although some of the book makes it difficult at times to follow, I am hopeful it will be easy to understand. It makes a fresh change to read on Arabic variants of magic. As I am still reading it I will give a rating of 3 out of 5.
