Igloo Super Tough STX Cooler, 120-Quart

I am hard on coolers, and I have very high standards. I expect coolers to keep ice for a couple days, not degrade in their insulative abilities too quickly, and to stand up to three week camping trips in medieval environments. This cooler has now been through two such camping trips, and the exterior has taken some abuse and stood up to it well. However, the insulative abilities of the cooler are not quite as good as I had hoped. The ice is lasting longer than our old cooler (which has been in use for nearly two decades) but not nearly as good as I had hoped. On average 75-80 degree days (and 50-60 degree nights) with the cooler under a shade canopy, 22 pounds of ice was only last about 36 hours. I had hoped for it to hold out for roughly twice that amount of time. Oddly, since purchasing this one, my social media has been full of targeted ads for the same brand-name but the next step up in quality (and price). It's okay... for the price it's actually doing an okay job. I just expected a little more.

First impression when the cooler arrived was Wow...this thing is a beast! It's very clearly well made, with metal hinges and shackles. I was honestly impressed.So what's with only three stars? Well, I purchased this as a second cooler for camping. In past years it was just my GF and I, but this year a lot of my family went and we needed a lot more cooler space. To my surprise, my old fashioned little wheeled 60 qt Rubbermaid cooler outperformed this cooler when it came to preserving it's ice. At first I thought it was because the smaller cooler was used to keep already frozen meats from thawing...and the Igloo was used to keep items like soda and beer cold. The sodas, water and beer were loaded warm which likely contributed to the ice melting faster. But over the course of the 4 day camping trip, I kept reloading both coolers with ice and you would think that eventually the temperature difference would even out, right? Well that never happened. Maybe the frozen meats still gave the smaller cooler an advantage, but you'd still think that the Igloo should have overcome the advantage since it was supposed to be heavy duty (and came with a heavy duty price tag!).It's very well made, that I must say! You'd have to intentionally mistreat this thing to break it. Maybe as I use it again, I will attempt to reverse the conditions and load it with cold/frozen items and see how it does. If it does a better job, I vow to come back and change my review! lol

UPDATE: I love this cooler!! Survived second bear raid! Must have been the same bear as last year as he was much more gentle this time and did not eat my food. That habañero salsa was a burning reminder of last years buffet. A couple new punctures; however, used some DAP to fill in and worked like a charm.Bought this cooler for an annual wilderness camping trip. First night out our camp was raided by a bear. The bear was able to easily open the cooler without ripping the lid off or breaking the hinges. The bear got to enjoy all of my nicely chilled food as the cooler kept everything properly chilled including my habeñero salsa. Lucky him! There were some minor punctures but overall the cooler did really well.

4 stars. This is a well made cooler. It has the steel hinges and steel cables. The handles are sturdy and comfortable with it filled. But it does not have multi day ice retention. I had a bag of ice melt overnight in it. Didn't last a day. Now maybe with a lot more ice it holds better, but I am not spending hundreds of dollars either. This is a weekend cooler or a few days. This isn't the cooler to take 'off the grid' for several days but it is big, sturdy, well made, and won't break the bank. Just freshen up the ice and it will last several days. Good cooler

I do love this cooler. We seriously considered investing in a Yeti but ended up deciding to give the Igloo Super Tough a try. I felt like the Yeti's interior dimensions were not super great and you do lose a huge amount of space to insulation. Clearly that's what they're going for, but I liked the roominess and overall design of the igloo much better. We've been very happy with them (we have the 120 and 150 qt), they are far lighter than a comparable Yeti, far cheaper, and unless you're crossing the Sahara for a week I highly doubt you truly need the extra insulation factor. The hinges and handles are indeed "tough" and they easily will carry as much weight as you can put in them without stress on handles.

I just got this cooler today, and I'm already disappointed in it. One of the latches seems to work correctly - it closes securely, lays flush with the product, and stays up when lifted. The other will not close correctly, it won't lay flush with the side, and it drops down when opening the cooler, so you have to move it out of the way when shutting the lid.I'm not sure what to do, because this thing is going to be a pain in the @$$ to ship back, AND I need it for a wedding this weekend!

This is my first Igloo cooler, it will hold ice for 9 days if kept in the shade and under 70 degrees. Trying to find a wire food basket from Igloo is impossible as of today and if I ever do find one I will update my review, I know for fact baskets 20070, 20071 and 20075 doesn't fit and if they don't make one soon I will be selling this cooler, switching brands again and putting them in the same boat as Coleman "junk"..... There is nothing worse than soggy ruined food!

Over all a great cooler for the $. My problem with this cooler Who ever Densined the ss cable around the drain plug Did not give any thought to the leanth of the cable on the drain plug.. IT IS TO DAM SHORT. It is a pain in the A## to get off so you can drain the cooler.

This cooler keeps ice for the time claimed and for almost twice as long if kept out of the sun. What a deal.
