Works just fine, just don't think about using it with older 720p
StarTech adapters are my go-to company for almost any type of audio/video adapters.I got this one to let my wife connect her Windows Surface Pro to our bedroom TV and connect up a wireless keyboard to it to allow her to use it from anywhere in the room.Everything connected up fine, however, I failed to realize how bad 720p TVs are at dealing with connections from newer tech. Picture was terrible, any adjustments on the TV or the Surface Pro settings would make things worse.So...looks like it's time for a new TV! lolBuy the adapter. I use it on other applications in my home theater and living room TVs and everything works, sounds and looks just fine.If you have a 720p TV, get this adapter and buy a new TV like I'm about to! lol

Works great with Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2
After buying my Surface Pro I realized I wanted, no, needed to hook this beautiful piece of equipment to the biggest TV I could find. Unfortunately after laying out all that money for a Surface Pro, I was hesitant to spend another $50 for the official Microsoft Surface Pro HDMI adapter. For $15 I decided to take a gamble on this adapter. It works like a champ. When the Surface Pro 2s came out I grabbed one. This adapter works just as well with it. I currently have it connected to a 40" TV and it works fine. I did have to shut off overscan on my TV, but that has nothing to do with the adapter. With my Surface Pro (not 2) I was not able to get sound over this adapter, even though both mini Display Port and HDMI support that. I don't know if that's a limitation of the Surface Pro or not. I have not tried with the Surface Pro 2 yet. I'm using it with a Plugable UD-3900 USB 3.0 Universal Docking Station with Dual Video Outputs for Windows 8.1, 8, 7, XP (HDMI and DVI/ VGA to 2048x1152, Gigabit Ethernet, Audio, 2 USB 3.0 Ports, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, 4A AC Power Adapter) dock and have speakers directly attached to it.If you have a Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 and want a cheaper HDMI adapter, this fits the bill.tk

Worked well
Product did arrive in time as promised. Packaging was good and easy to open. What is good about it1. Price. The Microsoft certified / sold my Microsoft is more than 2 times the cost of this product. It works as good as the original product. So why pay more than double the cost ! I waited for these many days to write the review only to check the durability. Normally electronic products fail in the first few days or they would last quite long. So I hope this would work well for a long time.2. AppearanceThe plastic finish is quite good. My friend has bought the original adapter from BestBuy paying twice the cost but looks more or less the same. What is not so good about itI do not have any complaints.Base lineIt is worth the price. Even if it fails, I can buy another one and still spend less than the one sold at Best Buy.

Works great for 4k at 60Hz
I originally ordered a different adapter and couldn't get the screen to look right at 3840x2160. My Mac kept telling me it was operating in low resolution mode. I tried different cable, TB2 port and different monitor but the results were the same. Then I realized the adapter I had chosen was limited to 30Hz so I ordered this one from StarTech to replace it. It worked great... as soon as I swapped out the adapter for this one I was able to run at 60Hz AND I was able to choose resolutions at 2K that were not showing up with the other adapter. Definitely glad I found this. For the curious: I am running a Mac Pro (black trashcan) with Mojave, connected this to the a thunderbolt port on Bus 1 and ran a 40ft HDMI out to the studio display (LG Ultra HD at 3840x2160 60Hz).

Great product
Arrived on time and in perfect condition as is the case with Amazon. I tested the item with my new 256GB Surfacepro2.I played a movie on the SP2 and then plugged in the miniport adapter.I then plugged in a 4' HDMI cable which was connected to my Sony HDTV directly rather than through my Onkyo receiver. Everything worked perfectly and the adapter passed both sound and video. Sound was quite loud too even when not passing through the receiver. Should work well with a hotel TV one assumes. One final note, it is easy to plug the mini port into the surface pro2 the wrong way round and then it does not work. The plug also works fine using my receiver which I have tested now as well

Save yourself some time-- don't get this product.
Do NOT buy this product. I received the product and tried to use it to connect my large monitor to my new surface book. IT DID NOT WORK.I've tested my surface book minidisplay port, and i've used my monitor (and cable) before to connect with my old computer. So I have confirmed that it is this adapter that is dysfunctional.Very disappointed in the product, and definitely will be returning. I'm also annoyed that I have to go through actually printing the return label and returning the product to get a refund--what a waste of my time.UPDATE:I am a busy professional student and missed my window to return this item. So now i am stuck with an item that does not work. This was a complete waste of my time and definitely disappointed that I couldn't return this defective product.

Works as expected and well made
Works as expected and is well made. I got this to try to do 4k 60 Hz video from a Mini DisplayPort output to HDMI input on a TV. It was not able to do 60 Hz, but that is probably due to EDID signalling coming from the TV, so not really a flaw with the adapter.I do have a monitor that can do 60 Hz 4k over HDMI, but I have not tested this adapter with it yet.
