Earl Diamond Super Heavy Duty 1/2" Drill Chuck with Chuck Key and MT2 Shank | Morse Taper Arbor #2 (B16)

Very tight tolerance for drill press use drill several times a week, excellent precision for price point. I would recommend this drill chuck to anyone that likes quality at a reasonable price.

The R8 shank this comes with didn't exactly match the taper of the chuck. This means it uses up a little more Z axis in my mill than it has to, and also, I'll sometimes have issues with it coming off with even slight amounts of side load, such as drilling a hole offset in an existing hole to open it up. Not hard to fix, particularly if you have a lathe. I'm going to try matching the contours better with some emery and lapping compound. Concentricity and run-out have been excellent those. I've made some very nice threaded M3 and M4 holes thanks to this chuck.

solved my runout issue

I am so very pleased, good quality well made.My drill press drills holes now and no longer draws tiny circles like it is trying to figure where to start. Up graded the performance of my used press so much.

Pros: Its a solid chuck with tight tolerances. Accurately aligns with my head stock spindle. The packaging was nice, bubble wrapped and coated in that Chinese grease. The longer MT2 shank came separated from the chuck, protected in a plastic case, and is an excellent fit for my vintage 1950's Delta1460 wood lathe tail stock. When I retract the tail stock all the way the chuck releases as it should. The chuck key is solid and fits nice. Cons: I was quite upset when I opened the box and found that the nibs of the chuck do not come completely together as shown in product photos. I paid the extra money and purchased this particular chuck specifically for that reason. I use small 64th" sized bits for some of my work and my smaller drill bits aren't hex style quick release bits. I understand the listing says 3-16mm but the multiple photos clearly show otherwise. I needed to use the chuck as soon as it arrived, otherwise I would have returned it and purchased the "WEN 1-16mm"chuck for $20. Side Note: The chuck is in Earl Diamond packaging but is etched with the SANOU branding. Not sure what that's about.

I use this in the tailstock of my MT2 taper lathe. It runs true and so far has been just fine for the price.

Works perfectly. Haven't measured runout but can't see any by eyeballing it.
