USB CD/DVD rom drive: Great Performance!
A wonderful DVD/CD rom USB drive. Perfect price, can be booted to, perfect for install of operating systems on the mini laptops which do not have a CD Rom drive. This perfectly priced CD/DVD rom player works better than some of my laptop DVD rom drives. On one negative point, when you place this drive on a hard solid surface and when you do heavy reading from drive a slight vibration is heard because the drive is so light. However, this can be easily remedied by placing the CD/DVD rom onto a mouse pad; then all is quiet and runs perfectly and like new. On some small mini laptops, when you boot to the DVD rom drive (To install an operating system :for techs:) the PC can not 'see' the USB drive, often when you simply let all plugged in and re-boot the drive is found and all works perfect as it should. To sum it up; Great product, fast shipping, outperformed my expectations of a small (very affordable) drive. I will buy more for our computer tech department to have on hand when needed.:::Well Done:::

Cost Effective and Works
This is not an RW drive, which is fine. Few things require burning a cd/dvd any more, so this is perfect. If we can cut costs by doing that then so much the better. Seems like it shows up as a TEAC CD Rom by bios and when used with a DOS USB driver I've had for years, it detects it as the same and works fine. Confirmed Auto-detected by Win 7 and Win 10. Currently, it's plugged into a rackmount server running ESXi, was ID'd by the bios and booted/installed ESXi from it successfully. It looks like it maxes out at 24x. It is a little noisy, but not excessively so. The noise comes not from the spinning of the CD but the movement of the optical sensor.NOTE: some external CD/DVD Rom drives can pull power through the primary USB connection such that you don't need the second connector. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE. You do in fact need both the data and power USB cords plugged in to operate the device. Given the price, you can't really complain - it's almost disposable at $12 USD.

Does the job fine, especially for the price.
Pro:Does the job very well. When plugged into my 2012 MacBook air, it does not need to use the extra cable for power. It runs just fine off the USB cable only.Very compact. The cord is only 6-8 inches long. Might be a con for some people, but I like not having a ton of extra cable in the way.Con:A little noisy. Not helicopter loud, but especially on a hard surface it is noticeable. To be expected for the price.First time I used it, the drive would not open. I inserted a paper clip into the tiny hole on the front to pop it open manually. The drive was still very cold as I had just brought it inside from the mailbox. Not sure if it was because of the temperature or because it was the first time it was opened. It ejects just fine now.Not a con, but be aware this is a DVD/CD *read-only,* not a writer drive.

Great product with an amazing price.
Bought this DVD player for an old Dell computer that developed a problem with the original built-in DVD player. I wasn't sure if it was a hardware or software problem, and if I could bypass the problem by simply using an external player. But, for a $10 investment, if it worked great and if not, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. As you could guess from my 5-star rating, worked like a dream. Plugged it in, turned on the computer and its up and running. Plug and play; what a time-saver.I have used the player a dozen times over the 2 weeks since I received it and not a problem. Regarding the noise level other reviewers have mentioned, I am someone sensitive to extraneous noises-- they drive me nuts! I haven't found this drive to be unacceptable loud and annoying.

DOA
I could not get this drive to work. Of course, my computer did recognize the device, but beyond that when I would attempt to load CDs or DVDs the drive would just vibrate and make grumbling noises. I could not get it to recognize any disc that I tried, I tried ten different discs for good measure. I also went through the troubleshooting steps (unplug / replug USB, restart computer, etc.) to no avail. One other thing: this requires a USB plug for data and one for power. USB ports are not always plentiful. I think that's why the USB hub is listed with this drive as "frequently bought together". But if that is the case, maybe the buyer would be better off paying a little bit more for a drive that can run power and data off of the same USB cord.It seems as though this turned out to be a great deal for many previous buyers, but I must assume with cheaper electronics it is a crap-shoot.

I plan to buy another
This item worked just as it should. I simply plugged it in to my laptop with the cords provided and it worked instantly, reading all discs I plugged into it. DVD, CD, PC games and PC software. Some very old game discs from the 90's that won't function on my PC were even readable even though my computer wouldn't execute them...As for the physicality of the device, it feels sturdy. I've encountered flimsy disc drives that feel like they may break under a hand that's too heavy... This one does not feel that way. The tray that slides out to accept the disc feels very firm and well put together. The disc snaps firmly into place instead of floating in the drive.Overall it is a very well made and well working product and I plan to buy a second one very soon.

Good for the price
The drive works and is great for doing things like installing games via DVD to a computer without a drive installed into it. The one flaw to it is that it doesn't always want to stay connected to the computer. It'll randomly disconnect from the computer (even though the cable is still plugged in). The way to get around that is to either unplug and plug back in the USB cable or open and close the disk tray. But, it still (with trial and error) does what it intends (which for me is installing games via disk). If you're willing to put in a little bit of effort, it'll work great.

Very good
This is a very good, disc drive light and portable and very easy to use.Only down side is will not work with a Chrome Notebook.Other wise great for any one needing a disc drive for their laptop computer.

Note manufacturer recommends not playing DVDs from drive.
I bought this as an external DVD drive to play DVDs on my laptop. The description indicates it can play DVDs. However, the welcome booklet says they recommend downloading DVD files to your computer to play them because "directly using drive to play will cause damage to disc and drive". Absolute garbage. Talk about misleading advertising.

Slow and very finnicky but it works i guess
Pros:-comes in a small package, no manual. which is good in my opinion, it's less wasteful.-it can read my CDs which is all i want it to do.Cons:-i had to fool around with it for about 20 minutes to get it to work as it kept rejecting my CDs. has to be plugged into a specific USB port on the back of my PC for some reason.-it loads and rips CDs very slowly. i thought the optical drive on my old laptop was slow until i met this guy.-it complains a lot, beeps and grumbles galore especially when you first plug it in. i don't mind this much but i imagine some people will find it really annoying.Overall:if you're on the market for a cheap external optical drive that works in the most basic sense and that's it: go for it i guess... otherwise you're probably better off getting a slightly more expensive, more reputable drive.
