Gear Head USB 2.0 23-in-One Card Reader CR4200

My laptop doesn't have it setup for the microSD cards, and I need this for a unix box so I can set up some cards for a Raspberry Pi, and this worked out great.

I bought this at Office Depot, because I needed something immediately. It is completely dead. The power light on it does not even light when plugged into my Mac. It is supposed to be compatible with either Mac or PC, but it is totally useless. I will be returning it and would never trust it with my cards.

I bought a Gear Head card reader that looks similar to this one about a year ago. Supposedly they have a lifetime warranty, but when mine failed I tried to contact them by phone. After a very long wait on hold I left a voice message for a call back. 24 hours later they still have not called. Either they have an enormous number of customer complaints or they really don't want to honor their advertized warranty.

This card reader works well and reads high capacity memory cards. My only complaint is the housing, it is a very flimsy feeling plastic and the slots are not clearly marked as to what card goes where. The markings being unclear is not an issue for someone with with high PC skills but I would not want to give this product to my father. My father would not be able to decide where to put his memory card and need to seek assistance.

I purchased this to be used with my camera's 32GB Compact Flash card. In the middle of each of my data transfers the card will automatically disconnect and I will need to remove and re-insert the CF card or USB cable in order to continue my data transfer. I have tried on 3 different win 7 machines each with the same conclusion. My average picture size is 4-7MB each with a total file count of approx I am transferring approx 300 pictures that are an average of 4 MB to 7 MB in size each.Don't waste your money.

It works for me and I would recommend it for others. I am not that into this type of gadget, so advanced users may want something else. It does what is is supposed to and that is the reason that I bought it.
