Myrtleville? NOPE. Murderville!
These authors are back at it again with another slam dunk dramatic romantic tragedy. A'Shai and Liberty meet at a tender age during unfortunate circumstances at the hand of rebels, but that's just the beginning of their tortured tale. All these two have is each other as they flee Africa, but end up separated in Mexico after boarding a boat they think is named MYRTLEVILLE, but is really called, MURDERVILLE. Their lives take two drastically different paths, and eight years later A'Shai is a recent college graduate taking over the reigns of his father's drug empire, and Liberty is in the escort business finally enjoying life's simple and basic pleasures that she's been deprived of, along with the finer things in life. Coincidence brings them back together, but the drama is sure to follow as Liberty now belongs to A'Shai's ruthless and controlling business partner Samad. All A'Shai wants is to protect Liberty once and for all, but even his father isn't willing to go against the grain for some chick, and quickly gives him an ultimatum. With A'Shai's world crumbling and Samad seeking revenge, this read is full of ups, downs, twists, and turns. It's far from predictable, and is sure to tap into your emotions as the story line crescendos into climax and then back down. This book deserves nothing less than five stars. These authors packed so much action into this read, yet it does not seem overdone. So much happens to these two love birds while they are apart, and then reunited, but it is explained perfectly and vividly. Although much of what happens is based highly on coincidence, and the character circumstances are a familiar image from their previous works, this story is seemingly refreshing and brand new. Loyal fans pretty much know what to expect from these authors, yet every time readers can't help but fall in love with the characters they so eloquently present and are filled with emotion by the outcomes. I can't wait for part two!

Serious Obsession w/Color
I would have given it four stars because although the story line was a bit depressing it was well written and a page turner. However, as a brown skin black woman-as I'm sure a lot of their readers are- I found it very offensive w/the authors incessant obsession w/subtly promoting lighter skin or mixed characters as better looking or in a better light than dark or brown skin characters. Liberty one of the main protaganists was held in high esteem for her looks-as it was noted because she was a light skin African and later noted had white genetic make up mixed in there. They also HAD to let us know that another one of the main female characters who was lauded for her beauty had beautiful locs but "not the right texture for it". What this does is let us know she doesn't have full on kinky hair so subtly telling us she has some mixed heritage in there as well. "Ah ha-no wonder she's beautiful!" Both of the most beautiful women in the brothel were not black at all. On the flip side, I can only recall one brown skin woman noted in the book-and she was never described as being pretty but was shamefully dismissed by both men she was in contact with. Also, two dark skin men who were I believe described as being "black as tar" or something to that effect were in short just evil. As black people we have to be diligent in actively rejecting these subtle or direct notions that somehow if you're mixed you're beautiful and if you just regular ol' black folk your beauty is not worth mentioning-if it's even believed to be there. It is important. Whether this was intentional or not it still has the same effect-black is not beautiful. And I actively reject it out loud! And it's even worse when it comes from our own. They have to be aware of it too. I won't be reading the other two simply because I don't want to unconciously internalize any of that nonsense! That's more important to me than a decent read.

What a powerful love story!
So i finally decided to read this book once i knew part 2 was out. Even though i have read alot of A&J titles, for some reason i did not get around to this one. Lol maybe it was the title. Anyway, i am so glad i finally did! Wow this book was off the hook epecially when i realived it tied in a little bit the the famed Cartel series. This was a story of love that started in Africa and moved all the way to the U.S! The tragedies and abuse these poor kids had to endure was heartbreaking. It also gave you a look inside the disgusting human trafficing business. Some of the parts had me in utter shock and it is sad to know that this really goes on in the world. In typical A&J fashion, as soon as things finally start looking up tragedy strikes smh. I was so upset at the end i almost threw the book! I am now ready for part 2 and i hope there is some good news to ofset the sad ending of one. So get this book if you have not read it yet! Definately a page turner!

Not all that!!
OK, so I have previously read the cartel trilogy. Thought that this would be on the same level. Sorry to say it wasn't. I actually put this book down for about two days before going back to finish it. It was way too similar in style and story line. down to how the lead male speaks. In some ways this book has tarnished the originality of The Cartel. I just could not connect with this book at all. Just felt FAKE!! Then its reference to the Murder Mamas?????? I also didn't care for the ending I can already read the first page of the second book. It should be a mystery but its just overly predictable. As I write this review I am realising how bad it was. I am changing my stars from a 3* to 2*. I will not be purchasing the next two books!!!
