Every once in a while you find that product that solves a simple problem.The raise on this box allows you to use it with a typical mounting block for vinyl siding *and* keep it relatively flush which still allowing you to fully open it.I bought several to keep them in stock.

This in use cover is the ticket. I searched high and low for a cover that would work on our porch and after hours of searching and several trips to local big box and local hardware stores, having purchased several models, this box was exactly what I was looking for. On our deck, we needed an in use box to replace the standard "weatherproof" cover. However, the outlet had been placed very close to the laps on the siding. I needed one where the hinge for the cover was not at the base...which most are...or one that stuck up high...which most do. The next best option I had was to use a weatherproof box spacer and a metal weatherproof cover. That stuck out about the same as this box when it was retracted, but was deeper when in use and expanded.I like that these come in a variety of molded colors, so you don't have to worry about it chipping or scratching. The included knockouts and inserts were east to use and it seems very durable.

I purchased two of these Intermatic weatherproof in-use covers here on Amazon to replace the existing ones we had for the outdoor outlets on our house. I needed the extra 2-3/4" inside depth that this cover has to accommodate the larger plug on the Lockndry extension cord we are using for our new API 650 heated birdbath. This cover can be installed either vertically or horizontally and snaps closed to keep rain and snow out of the receptacle connection. The bronze color was a good match for the siding on our house and I like that these don't stick way out like some of the deeper covers do. The polycarbonate plastic this cover is made from seems fairly durable and meets the new 2014 NEC requirement for "Extra-Duty", so should hold up to the cold weather around here without issue.

These are very nice covers. I bought two. One for the patio and one for near the front door.I like the tabs you can pop out to accommodate the cords and that they are mounted on the side rather than the bottom.
