Ideal for Planted Tanks. Very well built. HIGHLY Recommend!
This light fixture is PERFECT for a heavily planted aquarium! This is actually the second time I have purchased one of these units. Both for my 75g and 46g planted community tanks. The PAR ratings are high enough to support most light-intensive plants, yet not harsh or overbearing. Love the nearly limitless possibilities for color temperature, hue, timing, and intensity available. They are so slim that you do not even notice them! I used to use a wooden canopy to cover lighting, but now I don't even need it! The aluminum body keeps the product cool which helps lengthen longevity. The only two problems I have with this unit, is that the reception from the remote is like 4 ft or less (No joke) and I wish the cable connecting the light bar to the control unit was a little longer. One FANTASTIC feature unique to this product is the fact that the timer retains customized settings and correct time even after a power outage!!PROS: *FULLY Automatic *Entirely Customizable *Restores Programming AND Correct Time after power interruption!! *Slim, Aesthetic Design *Efficient Energy Usage *Outstanding Plant Growth *Can be Optimized for Species-Specific Aquariums!CONS: *Frustrating Remote Reception *Shorter than Ideal Cable from LED to Control Unit *Lightning/Storm Feature Neat to Humans, but Abrasive to Inhabitants.Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of the Current USA Satellite [+] Pro!!I Highly recommend from one aquarist to another.

The greatest upgrade to my tank since my trapdoor snails moved in
Splurged on a new light for my 55 gallon freshwater tank. I've been using the existing old style, with an ugly canopy and less than great bulb that was YEARS old. I inherited the tank from someone else long ago, and only replaced filtration/ornaments over time, never lighting. Never even thought it would matter. This thing is ridiculously nice. It was easy to set up, wires are minimal, the unit itself isn't an eyesore either. Adjusted nice and easily, and firmly sits on my tank. The light output on this model is amazing. The white LED color is so bright against my sand background the tank looks totally different. I actually couldn't believe how much different the fish/inverts look in there.Programming was very straightforward, no issues, and the additional features like the modes for storms/clouds/etc are fun to mess with. Not necessary, just fun.The light does a nice ramp up and down, as it says it can do, so that ridiculously bright LED doesn't pop on and scare the fish.Being able to program the exact color you want for day/night is a huge bonus. I have a very deep blue for my nighttime mode, and my day is very bright white pretty much. The fish absolutely are acting differently now, when the daytime mode is on, the cichlids are out and about and much more busy in the tank, and the catfish/snails sorta sleep/rest all day. The second the night mode pops on (after a ramp down of course), everyone switches shifts and the cycle continues.I have nothing but praise for this light, it was a great splurge, and well worth it. Just getting rid of the old canopy was worth half of the price to me.Also, I have a 55" standard tank, 48" wide, and ordered the 48-60" model to cover me. Plus now I have some extra space to grow if I choose to. Only thing to note, with the bright light, you WILL see every little particle in your water now, so start saving for more filter floss or a better filter (or both!!).

Makes your tank POP, after replacing stock lights that came with tank
The basic white/blue/red combination of lights should be enough to motivate you to buy this as that single row of LEDS is very powerful and lights up the whole tank beautifully. You are able to see the blue lines on the heads of my German Rams from any angle, the oranges and reds from the guppies glow, and the pearls and power blue/green skin tones on the Gourami stand out perfectly. Every color on your fish (and I have close to 16 varieties), will stand out and pop. Add to that the automatic timer that turns the lights on and off at custom determined hours and you have the perfect scenario. But as an added bonus, you can customize colors that can be activated with a single click, and create thunderstorm effects, cloud cover etc. If I had to ask for one thing, though I know it would required extra programming etc. But it would be nice to allow folks to program in the lighting storms, cloud cover, etc, into the 24 hour period. It is such a very cool effect, but as it stands is gimmicky, because the only time it is activated is when ones grabs the remote to try it out and show people. It would be fantastic to actually allow folks to program those efforts into the actual 24 hour schedule so the fish can experience it automatically on a repeated schedule.Update 7/16 With this said, I recently discovered Current USA has a product line out called "Serene.", that is more suited to my personal needs. It is NOT as bright as this light, as this light is intended for deeper aquariums with living plants to which I have none(all plastic). Instead the Serene system, which cost about the same, has a secondary light for "mood" lighting, two 24 hour schedules, and most importantly for me it incorporates all the special effects into the 24-hour schedule (cloud cover, lighting, etc.). However, the primary light is not as bright as this light. So depending on your needs there are two great lights available by this company.

"Current" indeed!
It was time to replace a 25 year old fluorescent tube strip sitting on a 5' long 100 gallon aquarium. After much research I landed on this particular lighting solution. Boy is this a huge upgrade! Sleeker, lighter, brighter, and built-in programming/timer. The instructions are adequate enough to get the light set up but there is some trial & error to get the programming/ramping settings right. I had to turn to YouTube and various aquarium forums to figure the nuances out. I also found a great tip from a reviewer on the Amazon.com product page explaining how to use the light with an additional digital timer to get a better ramping sequence. I have ran into an issue with the controller unit where if the cord gets jostled the light can turn off/on. I contacted Current USA about this and some sort of replacement unit has been shipped out to me. Will see what it is and if the issue is resolved once received. Kudos for their customer service though.Since the tank is 5 feet long I found the light strip with the retractable mounting brackets extended out to their full 60" length caused the light to sag in the middle. It is also very low to the tank glass top and the housing gets very warm to the touch. I had already ordered two Current USA mounting arms since I knew I wanted the light elevated and the possibility of adding a second light if ever needed. I highly recommend using these arms which provide more stability and easier access to removing tank lids and such.Yes, the light effects such as lightning storms and cloud cover are gimmicky. But maybe there's certain fish that like to breed under these type of conditions? I don't know, it just makes it look like the fish are freaking out at a rave party. However, the ramping from moonlight to daylight is awesome and I think the fish are calmer and happier with this LED strip compared to the old fluorescent they once swam under.

The most important thing is that my plants are doing great! All my species are thriving
This is my first LED plant light, and I did a lot of research before deciding on this one. The most important thing is that my plants are doing great! All my species are thriving, including some hair grass and a few other demanding plants. I'm using this fixture over a tank with mineralized top soil, and pop bottle and yeast CO2.The timer with ramping for sunrise sunset is a really convenient feature, and regular light intervals are great for the plant growth and keeping algae down. The "immediate modes", like rolling clouds, lighting, etc. are mostly a novelty, but still kind of fun to play with. Having night lighting with controllable brightness is cool, and it's been great for late night calm down times with my infant son. The programming options give you a tremendous amount of control for colour temperature, and that kind of thing. You could light your tank specially for parties! The fixture looks great. It's very slim, and has a solidly built feel too it. The remote and receiver look good and programming is easy.I have no experience with any competing products, so I can't make any direct comparison, but I have been very happy with this purchase.Edit: Going on four years with this light, and I still love it.

Nice light
Impressed so far. Plants are doing well. Haven’t used the lightning features much. It’s an easy shape to wipe down. Took a while to figure out lighting that pleased me, there’s 100,000,000 combinations of colour alone. It causes more ‘shimmer’ from waves on the surface than I was used to from fluorescents and shadows seem more pronounced. Quality seems excellent but only using it for a month I have no opinion on durability.

Very nice light overall
Very nice light overall. Using it on a 75 gallon on max brightness and it's quite bright. Not using CO2 at the moment, so I'll have to see if I get much algae or not. It's certainly bright enough for what I need, and I'm not trying to grow anything such as dwarf baby tears or anything.I have no use for a lot of the gimmicks of this light such as the light effects(thunderstorm, cloudy day etc.) and those seem to be mostly useless for me. I can't imagine many people actually use that on a regular basis. However the ramp up/down of the light when it comes on/turns off is very nice, as well as the moon lights are nice to have.
