SE 7-Piece Sharpening Stone Set - SS129

These were much softer than I would have hoped and were not good enough to stone stainless surfaces. I will not buy again.

I bought these stones on a whim to see if they would fit a need for sharpening different odd profiles of chisels and other cutting edges in my tool inventory. As it turned out, they were quite a bit softer than I wanted and didn't last very long for reprofiling and finishing some of my worn wood chisels and a few older leather cutting knives. My hard Arkansas slips did much better and lasted for years so far. These new stones haven't lasted one year yet and they show signs of uneven wear and gouging from my attempts to get into confined areas on some of my cutting tools.

As an "add on" item, these stones are great! Most of my carving tools are less than professional quality and need a lot of shaping, honing, and smoothing to get to usable condition. These stones are just what I need to do some of that initial work. Carving tool manufacturers save a lot of money by not finishing the cutting edges or even grinding to the correct angle in some cases. Seldom will gouges come smooth enough on the inside. That's were these stones will shine. They are somewhat coarse so not really for finishing or touching up as much as they are for major sharpening jobs where one needs to get rid of nicks or rough machining marks. Really nice for well under a ten spot. And will probably come in handy for my lathe tools too.

I bought a set of these sharpening stones a while back to help keep my wood carving tools sharp, and they are doing great. I really liked the different shapes of the stones. This helped a lot with sharpening odd shaped and curved blades. If you have a challenging tool that needs sharpened, check these stones out. They may just be what ya need.

I like this little set.At an office supply store, I was advised there was nothing I could do but to re-purchase a paper cutter whose blade dulled.Not so, one of these babies, and my blade slices right through paper.Very pleased.4 stars because, unless I used the wrong one, it did not seem to sharpen blade of small pocket knife.

i have done gunsmithing for 40 plus years and depend on and use many sizes shapes and grits of stones in my work . These fit the bill great product and price and shipped very fast .

Picked up a set of these stones recently. I got these to do some shaping and smoothing on firearms parts. I would say for the money they are a great deal.My only complaint is I wish they had included an Aluminum oxide stone in 180 grit as well as 150. I would recommend however that if you are looking for something to do trigger jobs with, that you spend the extra money and get the real deal India and Arkansas stones.Overall I'm happy with the product and value.
