i purchased the glow in the dark clock. Will I have to put it in the sun for the solar every day?

Ambient light seems fine. I shined my flashlight on it for one minute and it glowed brighter than I wanted that night. So it is up to you. Place it, if possible, in a position to get sunlight during the day if you want it brighter through the evening and night. Mine does not come close to any direct light and seems bright enough at 4:30 am. Hope this helps.

Why zinc carbon batteries, are they even being made any more ?

Forget the batteries. DO NOT buy from these people unless you like BROKEN clocks! Received 2 Both arrived BROKEN! I was told by Amazon that was a packaging issue. Well, if the sellers don’t know how to package their product maybe they shouldn’t be sellers!
