So powerful that I signed up for Dr. V’s new 'mindset retraining' course on IG (@thrivewithfdt )
This is CBT with a soul. A fundamentally life-changing book that introduces an entirely new way of thinking and living with Future Directed Therapy (FDT), inclusive of practical exercises and worksheets. I cannot overstate the profound impact FDT has had on my life, as I continue to revisit my marked up copy. It has even become a go-to gift for friends/family.

Change Your Expectations to Change Your Life
Think Forward to Thrive is a well written, step by step guide for anyone who has experienced disappointment in trying to achieve their goals. Jennice Vilhauer, PhD, does an excellent job of presenting and explaining the material. The Introduction and first four chapters discuss the theoretical framework of the book. Chapters 5 through 12 give detail instructions for implementing the framework. There are two major assertions in the book: 1) We get what we expect, not what we want. 2) What we focus on expands and shows up as results in our lives. Her goal is to get the reader to focus on a better future while letting go of the past. The overall approach is a bit unique in that she really focuses on getting the reader to shift their thinking from the past and what they don't want to the future and what they do want.As she explains, when we have negative emotions around a goal, there is something we don't want that is coming up around that goal. Negative emotions always involve something we don't want. Too often we focus on what we don't want, which brings more of what we don't want into our lives. These are very powerful ideas, but they are not new. In 1957, Earl Nightingale, often referred to as the father of the self-help movement, released a program titled, The Strangest Secret. The revealed secret was, “We become what we think about most of the time.” In the program he also asserted, “We tend to live up to our expectations.”Ms. Vilhauer’s approach will probably appeal to and resonate with some people on a deeper level than Mr. Nightingale’s.If you are totally new to the self-help, self-improvement, this book will be an extremely valuable resource. If you have been actively engaged in self-development, you will find a lot of things in the book which you already know. As Ms. Vilhauer points out, it is not what you know it is what you do that counts. There are plenty of exercises for the reader to do. If you want to get the most out of this book, you need to complete the exercises. There is also a website with additional resources and worksheets.Unless you change your expectations, you will continue to get what you've always gotten.

To Thrive or Not to Thrive.
In the modern days, everything is asking for people attention, during the torrent of information, only very few them is truly good for our long time well-being.Moreover, we have lost the ability to identify the good future. This book brings us that, and give the tools to help us aware are we on the path to the things we want. And help us to bring back ourselves back to the path from the distraction and negative emotions.

I hope it stays in print
This is such a good book. I’ve read CBT, ACT, so many books on therapy and psychology. This book ranks up with the best. It should be more widely known.

New & Old Ideas
In today's market, integrating state of the art research is key to reaching your audience. Using recent brain studies, psychological insights, New Thought concepts, and plain old common sense have been blended perfectly here. I know a good book when aha's keep going off! Yes, I've somehow heard it all before and yet I can take in many of her points so much easier. She must be reaching both sides of my brain! Bravo!!!Ultimately, the proof in the pudding will be putting all these wonderful ideas into action. It's not hard to see that the basis of the book is about creating your own future. Just look around us. We have cities, technology, cars, you name it all because someone envisioned it. What will we create for ourselves!

Something New and Helpful
I was pleasantly surprised to come across this innovative guide! This is not just the same old regurgitated version of CBT that seems to be prevalent in so many books today. This book actually has new material and ideas which I haven’t seen before. I found them to be enlightening and helpful. There are some common themes with other cognitive therapies, such as learning to be aware of your thoughts, and a chapter on mindfulness. This book breaks new ground with cutting-edge information on how our thoughts create new future experiences, and I found this material to be very insightful. Dr. Vilhauer brings singular clarity to the concept of anticipation, illuminating how our past thinking can limit the choices we make going forward. I am a therapist, and believe that this book will benefit me both professionally and personally. After reading this book, I was able to recognize a few significant areas of change for myself. I plan to recommend Think Forward to Thrive to my clients as well!

Very good
Very good concept. It would have helped if the writing was a bit more concise, sometimes there is a lot to wade through, but I am finding it useful.
