Absurd, but worse yet - insulting
I read this book aloud for my tween sons. It was interesting enough, but we all found the plot a little hard to swallow. Why on earth would the government send a 12 year old boy without flight training on a critical mission that required flying a plane to a foreign country? It would have been easier to suspend disbelief if he was chosen because they needed someone to go undercover as an ordinary kid, or because he chose the mission in order to rescue his family or something.Another thing that I disliked INTENSELY was the description of the villain:"When he was a kid, Jimmy Shady would've been the last one picked for the baseball team. The one who never got invited to anyone's birthday party. The one who ate lunch all by himself." The boys who read this book aren't necessary the most popular kids in this class. They may have poor motor skills and problems making friends. What a blow that the main character in this book scoffs at them! That said, there aren't that many illustrated boy-books with short chapters out there, so this book might be right for many struggling readers.

Great books to get reluctant boys into reading!
I have 9 year old twin boys who were reluctant readers until about age 7-8 when I decided to buy them enticing books to get them into reading for enjoyment. This series looked appealing to young boys and looked simelar to 'Stormbreaker' type films which they enjoyed. I therefore bought several including this one. They really enjoyed the book and as soon as they had finished asked me to buy the next one! They have also read each one more than once which is unusual for them. So I highly recommend them.

A mistake
There was nothing wrong with the book, just the age of the child it had been for. I would put the maximum age for this as 7-8 years.
