Made the time period come alive...
Very well done. Author's recollections of the German occupation of Denmark from a childs point of view made you feel you were sitting at her feet.

This book must be turned into a movie!
As our Mother Johna Chrsitensen was quoted "I visit schools & share my story...very few of us who survived the Holocaust will have survived this life at all. The children must know." By huddling in a small boat with other refugees, she, her mother, and grandparents escaped to Sweden under the gunfire of the Nazi soldiers on the coast of Denmark. What is unique about her story is due to the fact by birth defect, she had no left hand. A 6 year old handicapped Jewish girl would have had no chance of surviving. What an amazing true story, and documented WWII History Heritage she has left the World.

Best Book I Have Ever Read!! I am 13
This is an inspirational book that teaches you history in a real life story. This is a real emotional book and you might need some tissues at some points in the book. I would give this a 6/5 stars if I could. I hope I can impact some lives like Johna has. Thanks Jette for giving me an opportunity to read the book!!

Sweet little book.
A tender little book that I read while visiting Denmark. It is told through the eyes of a six year old. Perfect holiday reading.

Wonderfully telling of the Danish resistance
Wonderfully telling of the Danish resistance. It shows there were "good Nazis" and nasty Nazis. Amazing the nuances weaved into her story.I also recommend "A Legacy of Decency" as they both form a full picture of Denmark during it's occupation.

Interesting!
Very insightful. Told with real truth from the perspective of a young girl. Time period explained very well. It's a sad reminder of what can happen within any government. Something we should never forget!

Read this because of a presentation on BookTV by the author's surviving brother
I read this story very quickly, the story was interesting and moving, but was especially compelling because it was basically a diary from his young sister that he found after her death.
