H-Squared AIRMOUNT-S Air Mount for Airport Extreme

Now I used this in conjunction with their H-Squared Horizontal Adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052DTX4Y/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6), as I wanted my Airport Extreme nicely mounted on the wall in the proper orientation. The build quality is superb, it looks grew once done and works better than expected. It even came with a separate bracket to hold mount the power supply. I just wished it included better instructions. I didn't know what that extra bracket was for until I had the power supply in hand. There are also a lot of extra mounting holes that look important, but I am not sure if they should be used or when. I felt the hardware included was not up to the same quality of this nicely build bracket. They should have had better sized and fitting stainless hardware. Either way it works well, is very easy to install, mounts my Airport up and out out the way and does it with style. Sure you could duct tape, wire-tie, or strap it to the wall, but why, this thing is cool, looks good and is made for it.

The power supply mounting bracket doesn't fit the older Airport Extreme Base station power supply. The mount is the right but the power supply doesn't fit properly into it because the corner radius' don't match. I already had the Airport mounted and the holes for the power supply mount so I didn't return the product and used a velcro strap to secure it. For the cost of this product I would have expected it to be right.

This product ships in very sturdy packaging, includes 4 fasteners, detailed instructions, and even a holder for the external power supply. All in all, it makes mounting an extreme base station securely a fairly simple affair. The many holes in the main mount allow you to attach it to either standardized hole patterns or drill & mount your own. Clearly, the folk who designed the thing went out of their way to offer as many pre-drilled holes as one might think are necessary. I have few complaints about this unit other than it would have been nice to have 6 fasteners per box (four for the mount, two for the power supply) and a different material might be a better choice. Specifically, the mounts are made of clear acrylic or polycarbonate. The trouble with the material on hand is that it is possible to overdrive a screw and then split the underlying plastic mount quite easily. So don't overdrive screws, especially on the power supply mount (the other one has more give). In my opinion, a slightly less sexy material like glass-filled polycarbonate or acrylic would have made a better choice, making the thing less brittle. But it would not look as nice, and I suppose some people mount the extreme ABS in a exposed location, so looks matter to that customer population. All that said, I still think this is a terrific mounting system, though, like others, I feel it is overpriced. But, with nary a competitor in this market segment, why should I be surprised that the mount would be value-priced?

This arrived a day earlier than the estimate, which is always nice. The box was very easy to open. Be careful, there's a "mounting template" printed on the cardboard insert! If you accidentally already threw it out, you can just hold the mount up to the wall and mark the places to use screw with a pencil (it's clear plastic, so you can see through it easily). The mount fit around the Apple Airport Extreme that has been bouncing around on my desk, now it's on the wall where it's not in the way anymore. Be careful if you want to mount it high up on the wall (which makes sense, because we want items that need/carry a signal to be up high), don't forget to leave room above it to be able to slide the Apple Extreme into it (it slides in from the top, so you have to leave room between the mount and the ceiling). I'm happy.

This was soooo close to getting 5 stars. 1 star docked for only 4 screws and only 2 anchors (I would expect 6 and 6, since you need four to fasten the main mount securely and two for the power supply mount). Weird oversight. 1 star docked because one end of the power supply mount cracked off when fitting the power supply into it after fastening it to the wall. Before fastening the power mount to the wall, it's flexible enough to bend a bit and fit the power supply into it, but after securing it to the wall, it had lost the flexibility. Lucky for me it was the upper edge that snapped, so it's still holding on. The power mount ought to be a few millimeters longer. For the high price, I wouldn't have expected to run into these issues.

I want to start with something so many others have mentioned in their reviews. The screws... Yes, they only include 4 screws total, 2 for the Airport Extreme mount and 2 for the power supply mount. Some have complained about this, but to be honest, if you mount the thing in line with a stud in the wall (Like you should be.) then it is NO PROBLEM at all... The mount is very solid and well designed. I mounted mine about 15 feet up on a wall in a shop and get great range from it and I have no concerns about only mounting if with 2 screws. I would definitely buy this product again without thinking twice about it!

This does not work for the newest version of the Airport Extreme (version 6). The product information should reflect that fact. I had to return it.

I am very happy with the excellent quality and materials of the product. It securely holds the Airport Extreme and the fit is excellent. The manufacturing tolerances are superb. In no way does this mar, disfigure or alter your Airport Extreme. The only minor negative that I have is that the included instructions could be better. There are a few different options for fastening the Airmount to the wall or ceiling as it relates to locations of screw holes and screw sizes and this could have been more clearly communicated. This minor complaint would not stop me from buying another Airmount if I needed one and would not keep me from recommending this item. Botom line... if you need to mount your Airport Extreme to the wall or ceiling then buy this item... it does the job extremely well in a very unobtrusive manner... just be ready to "noodle" through the fastening options for the mount itself. Once fastened your Airport Extreme will slide right in... no problems.
