I was expecting the float to open when in the level position, but it is just opposite of the picture. The picture shown is in the Open position, (no power flow) so this would work for a sump. I flipped it over and am using it for an auto fill for a pond.Very easy to install, but you need to provide your own locknut.

Works as advertised, and a couple notes:1. Can be used either "upside down" or "upright", so that the switch opens *or* closes when the liquid level drops.2. Has a large pipe thread mount which is sort of a waste. Most users probably won't have the big-ass tap needed to make the threads and won't spend the $$ for one. In my application I filed off the threads and glued it in place.

I used this for the auto fill valve on a Hardy outdoor wood stove. Was exactly as original at a fraction of the price if ordering from Woodstove supply houses.

Purchased this base on review from other users... For Hardyhail wood stove this will NOT work! Once placed in hot water this unit FAILS! Take it out an works fine. As for price and everything else it's as stated but was waste of money in my case.
