Easy to install!!
All the parts were there for making the wiring connections from the older models to the newer, making the installation a breeze! Took only a couple of minutes for each one, taking down the old detector and replacing the new. Holes were in the right place for the new one to pop right back up where the old came from. The adapter wiring harness was there, didn't need to do any electrical work or turn off power, the connectors went right in and the harness fit in the electrical box. Works great!

Great Brand
We bought this to replace a wired smoke detector in our home that was over 10 years old. It was very easy to replace. I just used the same screws, but used the included bracket and it installed quite easily. I did have to follow the directions to reset the wired part so that the chirping wouldn't continue, but then it worked just fine. I would highly recommend this.

replacements
Our house is 13 years old. We were 2000 miles away on vacation when my neighbor called to tell me the fire alarms were going off. I had to tell him how to break in so he could check things out. Fortunately, he found that simply, one of our old, linked smoke alarms had gone bad and removed it so they would all shut down. Upon researching the issue I found that these things typically have a shelf life. It was time to replace the entire linked system of 6 smoke alarms.I ordered the Kidde i4618's as the recommended replacements for our old Firex units. (Kidde bought Firex and apparently discontinued our old model.) They arrived promptly, installed easily after replacing the old bases, are more attractive, easier to replace the batteries, and best of all, they work! Good Job Kidde!!

Way better than the old style to replace a battery.
This is the second one I swapped out from the older style. Installation is straight forward. Takes all of ten minutes to do, first cut the power to the unit from the breaker box, you just flip the switch to off, remove the old unit, wire the new one, just match the color coded wires, loosen the old plate screws, replace the mounting plate, tighten the screws back up, connect the plug, twist the unit on to the mounting plate, turn the power back on, if it lights up green, you got it right. Pull the strip to activate the battery that was included and you're done.A 9 volt battery's head looks like this oO . This is the end used to connect the battery to the unit. The next time you change the battery, just slide the battery compartment open and pull out the old battery. The connection is fixed inside that compartment, only the battery moves. The head of the battery has to match up (oO to oO) to the two plugs inside, if it will not go in on the first try, turn the battery head facing the same direction from oO to Oo and it should click into place. You can look inside or feel the connectors with your finger to match up the position of the battery.Way simpler then the old style. I'd recommend this to anyone to replace the older style.

Good Replacement Unit.
Alarms purchased to replace 10 year old existing units. Removed old unit, replaced mount bezel, reconnected power and signal leads, tested unit and done in less than 10 minutes. Same process for five other alarms. Make sure each alarm triggers the other alarms when testing. Good unit, good price, good performance. I will do it again in 10 years.

Ease of install
It was exactly as described so I could swap out the old and pop in the new without changing switchplate, wiring, etc. When I'm up 10 ft on an extension ladder holding the detector with one hand and attaching the in-house wiring with the other, this is very important. Detach the old detector (drop it down to the floor), match up the the three prongs on the in-house wiring with the three holes on the detector, push on securely, screw the detector (righty-tighty) to the switchplate, push the button to test and it was done.

Trust Firex/Kidde
We just purchased a half-dozen of these units to replace our original, now ten year-old, Firex units. I never would have replaced them if the home inspector hadn't recommended it in connection with the sale of our condo (in only four days!). Our buyer was thrilled that we replaced with similar units to what he had in his prevous home. The conversion was very simple as I merely needed to mount the ring to the outlet box and rewire the three conductor plug connection. The entire process took barely an hour for all six units. Please remember to replace your units no less than on a ten year interval.Really a great product that we stake our lives on every day!!!Carpe Firex/Kidde!

Easy installation
This was a direct replacement for existing fire alarm. Not sure what happened with the last one, but this one replaced and installed perfectly. We have 8 fire alarms on our system. One failed which triggered all of them to go off. Really like that safe fail. Happened at 2:30 am. Had just moved into this home and wasn't sure of when batteries were replace, so replaced them all. Better safe than sorry.
