Poor quality!
Set this up and within a few days it quit working, power shut down and couldn't turn it back on! It simply quit! Thankfully the seller accepted its return. Also, it's bulky and heavy for its intended purpose as compared to most other sound bars.

Altec Lansing sound Bar
The sound bar had the A/V inputs that we needed for our new TV to hook up to our older DVD player, Non HD cable box and VCR. The size was a bit overwhelming. Based on the descriptions people said it could be placed in front of the TV or mounted on the wall. The height of the bar was prohibitive to being placed in front of the TV as it blocked the signal recievers on the TV. Wall mounting wasn't an option as the room gets rearranged every few months.

Good sound, bad remote! Does not use standard code.
I wish someone had written this before I bought this. The good: It sounds great compared to the TV speakers. It does what I wanted which was to not sit with the TV remote adjusting the volume when people were talking, for commercials, etc.The bad: It doesn't work with universal remotes. Altec Lansing used Toshiba TV codes for the remote. Even using those codes, I am unable to program my DirectTV remote to use the volume buttons on the sound bar.Fortunately, I don't need to adjust the volume often. Unfortunately, my wife sat on the remote, now even the actual remote doesn't work with it.If someone gets this to work with a DirectTV remote, let me know how!

owsome for so litle price and size graet sound
i purchased 7031 cause i have no space for the rear speaker behind me with my present room setup.sound was excellent but there was a problem it did not work for me with the remote. i then purchased the 8051 with rear speakers adjusting my room setup and wow incredible for me there is no need for additional sub the altec sub is very good and there are 2 setting for sub normal and deeper.and its wireless no cables running around.for me as a past owner of the top highest audiophile system with 7 separate amps and speakers a processor and a 15 inch top of the line sub.best cables. i am very happy with this system.with good optical cables connections for sound ,there is no need for hdmi connection cable with the altec only a simple video cable that comes with it only to see the setup menu. enjoy.p.s sound bar is only 40 inch not 50 inch long as on another review and fits nicely on the tv stand shelf under the tv.

Mine just died too
The sound was great while it lasted. Yes it is big and bulky, but the sound was great for my TV and MP3 player. A week ago, it would just not power on. When turning the unit on, there was a brief, dim blink of red led, then nothing. I am disappointed in the longevity. I would be pi$$ed if I had paid retail, but $99 for 4 years service is not too tragic. Now to find another deal. RIP PT7031.

Optical Toslink rocks the world!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice sound machine. Good spatial fit. However, companies like Microsoft Movies and Chrome Play and Flixster do not, I repeat, do not stream "Dolby." I do receive 5.1 channels, the fact of the matter is that it is not in Dolby. Even the Dolby website test screen does not stream "Dolby." iTunes lets you download an AC3 Dolby movie, but on Windows 10 the application video is jumpy; it is jumpy from a Samba server and from the local HDD. The audio from a download is in fact in 5.1 Digital Dolby. I am aware of Dolby Digital Plus, yet, I have read that it fully supports optical spdif output and that the only over hdmi claim is false and confusing.
