Capable virtual console
This is the perfect tool for the job when only a console will do. The USB file transfer is incredibly useful for driver installations, removing files from a machine for analysis, etc. It works equally well on my Surface and my MacBook Air, and it also works great with Remote Desktop, so I can access a machine's console via RDP--great for when I've left a machine on my workbench in my office and had to go out to the field. Expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Title: The WORST $470 I’ve Ever Spent – Absolutely Useless!
I honestly don’t even know where to start. I paid nearly $400 for this StarTech product, and it has been one of the worst tech purchases of my life. Let’s talk about the clarity first, or the lack of it. The display quality is atrocious. It looks like something from the early 2000s. Blurry, pixelated, and nearly unusable, especially when you’re trying to work on anything even remotely visual. For a product in this price range, I expected at least decent resolution. What I got was a screen so badly rendered I can barely stand to look at it for more than 5 minutes. Now let’s talk about the cursor issue, which is absolutely maddening. The cursor doesn’t align with where you actually press or click. I move the mouse to click something, and it selects something entirely different. It’s completely misaligned and nearly impossible to use for anything that requires precision. Every click is a gamble. It’s like playing a broken video game where the controls don’t respond properly. This isn’t a minor bug ,it’s a fundamental design flaw that makes the entire product unusable. I tried using it in different settings, different systems , nothing fixes the issue. It’s clearly a hardware or firmware problem. This isn’t just disappointing, it’s infuriating. The product is literally not functional for basic use. And for all of this, I paid FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. Let that sink in. $400 for something that can’t even click correctly. I feel completely ripped off. This product feels like a scam. It’s not even worth $40, let alone $400. To anyone considering this: DO NOT BUY. Save your money. There are far better and cheaper options out there that actually work. I’ve contacted support and I’m demanding a full refund. For a company like StarTech, this kind of product quality is shocking. I seriously expected better.

Works Great
Not many options for KVM crash cart modules, but this one is working as intended.

Great Device to have when you do lots of system setups.
Long time needed this for work use as i travel for system setups. It's a GREAT advantage to have this instead of carrying around a monitor, keyboard and mouse to setup hardware. I took off one start on this though due to some 'bug' on the interface when connected to HPE server hardware. Using the command windows instead of GUI - the keyboard had some buffering - mostly taking your time, or close it and restart it worked ok. I use a mostly new ThinkPad with Windows10 and no matter which USB port i tried the same thing happened. Support was decent at responding but traveling makes it hard to carry around a second laptop to be able to test the problem with. again - great for when you need it and a LOT lighter to pack into a carry on bag than a 23" or larger monitor and keyboard. and a partial star off that i wish it was slightly lower priced - but they pretty much have the market cornered - hard to convince boss.

DataCenter Life Saver.
This thing works every time and I can stop worrying about USB flash drives because I can mount a folder as a drive on my laptop and present it to the server Im connected to by the crash cart. It's not meant to be a security tool but not having to copy files onto a flash drive is huge for security. All my data never leaves my encrypted laptop drive and I can't leave flash drives behind or lose them. Also I can record if I need to call sup[port and they are removing into my laptop. So you can watch what they are doing and learn how to avoid needing support in the first place.

Better options available for Windows users.
If you run Windows on your service laptop, the cheaper IOgear device works better. The software for this has unit minor bugs/quirks and is less intuitive. I have Mac OSX, so I am stuck with this option. It's a workable solution, and certainly better than hauling around an extra keyboard and screen. I ended up keeping one of these for myself (OSX) and purchasing the IOgear unit for my employees (Windows).

Very disappointed.
I have a lot of experience getting things working on a system. This does not work. The first thing that happens is that I get a report that one of the files on the USB drive is a Virus and my AV quarantined it. Ok.. so that happens but still really annoying. I even suspect that it might be an actual virus. After that the experience goes downhill fast. It basically will not install the drivers on any of the 6 different laptops I tried it on. Yes 6.. all windows and with a pretty good spread on the OS versions. Windows 7, 8,8.1, 10 and 2012r2 Not a single one worked. I was able to get the software installed after I downloaded a version from the Startech site. But even after that, it would not detect the device. Could be defective I guess. None of the lights on it have ever come on. I very very rarely return something. Its just not worth it most of the time. But in this case.. Its going back. Startech you lost me here.

Is it worth it?
I have only used it a few times but it has worked flawlessly. It is expensive but when accessing servers that are in racks with no KVM, keyboard or mouse, it is a great tool to have.

article conforme à la description et trés pratique
Article commandé pour ne plus avoir à prendre un ensemble écran, clavier et souris. Il trouve sa place dans la sacoche à coté du portable, bien plus pratique et leger en tout cas.

Expensive but good crash cart adapter
Needs the driver to make this thing work. But it definitely serves its purpose of enabling the laptop to Be a kvm to be attached to my servers for troubleshooting purposes
