Great for cutting dovetails for scroll chuck jaws
This was just what I needed to shape the dovetail to grip in my nova chuck. This allows me to form the dovetail for both expansion and compression with the chuck. Since I am sometimes going into the bowl with this, the short handle makes it really easy to work with my midi lathe. I have a full size rougher, and a full size detailer would not only have been more than twice as expensive, but also more difficult to use in this case.Everything about it is cheaper, but I consider that a good thing, as it gives us choice. This was just right for my needs, though if you are using this as a primary tool for lengthy cuts, having the full size will be much safer as the length gives you more control and leverage while cutting. This short detailer gives you a lot more maneuverability and I think it is great for specific purposes, especially at this price point.

No sharpening really? Really!
I guy at a woodworking store raved about these for woodturning. I had seen them in catelogs and thought they were a gimmick. Wood chisels that don't need sharpening. Then I figured there must be a catch, maybe expensive blade attachments? With three basic shapes you can replace several tools. They come in different sizes for small and large projects. I am sold and have been buying a couple of these. You can imagine how having to take the time to sharpen my old chisels is painful.Loosen the screw, rotate the cutter and you are back to turning. It takes a little time to adjust and the kicker is how you hold these straight into the work vs dropping you handle lower. Simple with great results. The tool doesn't get in the way of what you are creating. Hope this helps you.

Great build quality, ready to use, okay price point
I own several turning tools, both traditional steel and carbide turning. I bought this detail tool for use in working the edges of spindle turnings. I am very happy with the build quality of the tool and it is very easy to use. I still use traditional turning tools more, but this specialized tool has its own place in my workshop.

Fantastic for beginning turners
I'm a newcomer to wood turning, having just purchased a low-end Chinese-made 10x12 inch lathe. As any new turner will tell you, one of the secrets to good turning it have good, sharp, tools, and using them correctly. Even with a lot of care, the beginner typically ends up with a lot of catches and splintered wood, and spends as much or more time sharpening as turning. And that's why the Easy Wood tools are so great. The Easy Start tools are a god size for my small lathe, and more importantly they eliminate the need for sharpening and drastically speed up the learning process, letting you concentrate more on the actual turning instead of cutting angles and tool choice. Almost all your work can be done with just three tools. They cut beautifully, never catch if used according to directions, and never need sharpening. I suppose I may eventually need to go back to my steel tools for some advanced techniques, but for now I'm perfectly happy with the Easy Start tools.

I like HSS but am starting to love Carbide - "Easy" (Easy Wood Tools) are very well engineered/made and works great for me
After reading good things about carbide tip tools and trying one in a class, I did some research and decided to try out the Easy Wood tools. I started with a rough cutter and loved it so I bought the finisher and loved it as well so I added this detailer and love it as well. They have rapidly been taking the place of the HSS tools I used previously and I am liking what I can produce with them enough that my HSS tools have been put aside as secondary tools. The ergonomics and build quality are very good and excellent for the price on all three tools. I will likely add the bowl turning ones to my set soon, but I do more spindle work.If you want to give Carbide (e.g. - Tungsten Carbide) tools a try, I highly recommend Easy Wood Tools line. If you are new to wood-turning, they lower the learning curve. If you are a person who loves the ritual and art of sharpening and going through all the various movements that HSS tools require, then these may not be for you. For anyone else, I would say give them a try. You will likely enjoy them and they will become a great new tool in your wood-turning arsenal!

Great tool, exceptional value
New to wood turning, I picked this one up because the lathe I bought second hand came with 2 other cutters by the same company. Easy to use and very sharp and durable. My only issue is the shafts could be maybe 4 to 6 inches longer but that may be another model number.

A new way to work.
Very sharp and well made. I'm now able to concentrate of form and design instead of sharpening. Very consistent results. I bought all three.

Un super outil
Facile à prendre en main, pointe efficace et qui semble à priori durable, c'est mon premier outil en carbure de tungstène mais je crois bien du coup qu'il en aura d'autres... bien sûr le prix est un frein à un équipement complet rapidement.
