It does play PAL dvd's with no problems.

Q: Will the dvd player go into slow motion mode by pressing one button, or do i have to press pause, then repeatedly press the forward key to move it ahe

yes it does have slow motion. press pause then fast forward repeatedly for one frame at a time. For slow motion press pause then hold down fast forward until it goes into slow motion at 1/16 speed. Press fast forward to cycle thru speeds: 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2. Sometimes I have to try it a couple of times to get it to work.

Q: where can i buy a replacement remote controle?

Sony has a great remote RM VLZ 620 here on Amazon, it works with all my devices, TV, stereo, DVD player (another different from the one we are talking about here). Try that one, it is easy to set up and good.
