Q: How does this item compare to using a mapp torch?

The primary difference is that the Airlighter incorporates an air-blower. You only use the flame for about 15 seconds on coal and then the blower mode is used to spread the flames, making it energy efficient and faster. It also has other useful features; folding handle, bottle opener, and flashlight.

Q: Does the initial purchase come with butane?

Yes, as I recall it came with a butane can (this was a couple of years ago). Works well, I think the fan is the best part for getting the fire going.

Q: Charging light is flashing red and green. I assume this means it is charging and solid green would indicate full charge. Can someone confirm?

Mine is solid red when charging not flashing. Turn’s solid green when charger. Not sure this helps.
