Excellent book on SSIS, but not in Kindle format
I purchased this book as a reference for building custom SSIS components for a client and it has proven to be a very thorough and understandable background on both SSIS functionality and how to build custom components - including beyond the simplistic examples this type of book sometimes has. However, I made the mistake of purchasing a kindle version. I found the kindle reading experience (on a desktop) much less effective than even PDF documents. A chief complaint is that the index was "dead". The index structure is there, but no page numbers nor links to jump to the index location. Search helped here, but there's a reason for having both search and an index. Don't know if the lack of the index functionality was due to how the publisher created the kindle version or it's a kindle design flaw. I also found the handling of embedded images and code samples to be not particularly useful. When in multi-column mode or when showing in a smaller window, the images and particularly text, did not scale well, forcing maximizing the size of the kindle window and turning off the multi-column mode to be properly viewed.

A great friend in building SSIS development skill
I have been working with SQL Server Data Transformation Services (DTS) for the past 12 years and now in SSIS for the past 4 years. Normally, my experience during SSIS 2008 development is to get some reference in internet which was a limited one. This book is very informative to an extent that I can say this is by far the best book I have referred in SSIS. It gives a jump start to a DTS developer to the world of SSIS development in SQL Server 2008 using C# or VB.Net and covers widely in all the Control Flow and Data Flow tasks. The authors have provided due attention in providing example code in both the languages for the reader to try where ever necessary. In this book I especially liked the chapters Using Expression and variables, scripting in SSIS, Accessing Heterogeneous Data, Tuning SSIS, WMI integration. Coming to WMI, the book could have covered a little more in this particular chapter but it definitely helps extending the imagination of readers on the power of WMI using SSIS.I will definitely recommend this book to my peers out there who plan to extend their ETL development skill using SSIS.

Great Book
I have been working through this book and what impresses me the most is the examples work without any real problem. That is a refreshing change from most of the books you get normally you end up spending more time trying to get the examples to run then you do studying them. This is the main reason I gave this book a five however, the infromation contained is also excellent it is clear and easy to understand plus you can put the information that you learn to work for you quickly.

A 2nd Wrox book that doesn't suck!
Wiley bought Wrox, and after ~ 2yrs now, I am happy to report this book is pretty good, and actually a joy to read in places. The book I bought on Visual Basic.NET was also well edited, which is more important in a collaboration than with a single-author book, otherwise, things can get very uneven and redundant.Only about 40% of the way through it - it's a BIG book - but will check back and modify this as I go.

Spotty
As I have grown to expect the WROX strategy of multiple authors has produced another mixed bag. I am sure they are all technically competent even expert but some do not communicate as well as others and it shows. Some of the chapters such as 10 on loading a Data Warehouse are excellent and some are poor or just a waste of paper.

Great Intro to SSIS
Recently changed jobs from full time .NET developer to a BI/SSIS developer. This book is handy to make that transition. Will need updated version as we're developing now against MSSQL 2014

Great book if you're just now starting development on a product from 10 years ago.
Why are you even looking at this? Get with the programme. We're on SQL 2017 now!

Could be much smaller
This is a bulky volume describing SSIS functionality. I suspect the tendency to large volumes in the professional IT books is to be deplored. Let's call it the inflation of size, while the content is not necessarily more or better described.
