I'm quite certain we should have picked a better first ever game for our first ever Xbox
I'm quite certain we should have picked a better first ever game for our first ever Xbox, but what can we say, we are mid-life Lego and Tolkien fans and this is what we wanted to learn how to play Xbox with. It's adorable and my husband is impressed with the awesome "movie" scenes with word-for-word dialog. I can't get him to do much more than hit every button randomly as he sees fit no matter how many times he "kills" me, but we have had a few very funny laughs, like when I threw a large rock and it hit him in the head instead. Yeah, well, it was funny while we were playing! I must say, the "alive again!" comes quickly and you only miss about 2 seconds of "wack your wife's character" time. As we are clueless as to actually how to play and win, we very much enjoy running around the scenes, hitting everything and collecting coins...until your husband falls off so many cliffs he ends up broke. Some of the graphics I swear look real. Hobbiton is fun to run around in. The test games inbetween the "quests" are doable, even if this is your very first game...ever. We only went broke on the first test.

Great Lego game!
Gorgeous graphics, Funny cutscenes, Character variety, Amount of main missions and sidequests, and Fun missions make for a great game experience.

If your child is a lego builder and has an Xbox -- you can't go wrong.
Really good game for the younger crowd. If you're looking for something with less of the violence and realism of most of the Xbox genre, this is a good choice. And if your son is a lego builder anyway, you can't go wrong. Gameplay is faithful to other Lego titles so if this isn't your child's first Lego video game, it will be immediately familiar. If it is, controls action and story are all easily picked up even by younger players (mine started around 7). Fans of LoTR will be happy to note many faithful adaptions of well-known story components. You don't need to have read the books or seen the movie to play the game -- but it will certainly add to your enjoyment if you have. This is good because most kids will be picking up this game well before most parents will want to let them watch the (often quite violent) movies.

In-line with other Lego games
My husband and I are big gamers and we love to have the option for a good couch co-op. Lego never lets us down.If you've played other Lego games it's really about the same as before. This is good and bad.Pros:Couch co-op with the added advantage of drop-in/drop-out (this means one of us can drop out to feed the dogs and the other can keep on playing)Not overly complicated (it is kid friendly) but makes up for it with a lot to playing timeTons of funGreat humorTrue to the movieCons:They haven't masted the split screen issues- if you only play alone it doesn't matterCamera angle can make it tough on certain jumping puzzlesNot really re-playableWe love the Lego games, they offer a lot of play time, variety of characters and abilities and are just plain fun even for two 36 year olds.

One of the best Lego games
Initially I didn't care for this game at all, it's slightly complicated with its approach towards forging items, collecting loot, finding characters and tracking down the red bricks. However, after the first few levels and completion of story mode, I have to say it's one of the best Lego games. Free roam keeps you busy and free play is great once you unlock the characters. My ONE huge complaint is you have to turn on the red bricks each time you play, which is super annoying when you forget and play an entire level with no mini kit and mithril brick detectors or stud multipliers. Otherwise glitches are minimal unlike some of the others, batman being the worst!

A Masterpiece
It's missing Battle of the Five Armies, but it's honestly the best LEGO game. A complete masterpiece from beginning to end with great humor!

Super fun for Hobbit lovers!
I just got an Xbox One and I love all the LEGO games. This one is great with a wonderful story and engaging characters. It does, however, follow the movies rather than the book. It is easy to play and is great for adults and kids alike.
