ProforceCompetition Kamas - Natural

Come very, very sharp and jagged on all edges. Lots of work to fix that.
I bought two sets of these for my children that are training with weapons for Taekwondo. The good: The materials meet expectation. The build quality isn't special or spectacular, but is approximately right for the price, I suppose. The bad: The finishing is nonexistent. The steel is simply punched right out of a sheet. Which means that one face of each blade has a razor-sharp ridge running all around it, and around each of the holes in the blade. If someone who isn't already an expert tries to practice with these, they could easily slice their hand well open—i.e. it's not just sharp on the "blade" side, but on both edges of the blade, on the back where it extends from the handle, etc.I considered sending them back, then sighed and went to work on them instead. Not having metal finishing tools or knowing much about finishing metal, I used a Dremel with a grinding stone to painstakingly grind away the sharp edge on every side, then 1000 and later 2000 grit sandpaper to gradually sand things to smoothness so that you don't cut your hand open running it along the metal anywhere. Finally, I gave a steady stand to the flat faces as well to try to give a brushed metal finish instead of the original gloss, since the gloss was now dinged up and a bit ragged from all the grinding work.It isn't perfect, but they'll work. However, given that it took me two hours and a bunch of materials (sandpaper, grinding stone) to do this, and that the result are kamas that look as though someone has roughly finished them by hand, it was probably worth it to spend $10-$20 more per set in the end and have it finished properly at the factory.Would I buy again or recommend? Can't do. You're going to spend money and time making these usable anyway. May as well save yourself the hard work and just pay someone else to do it by buying a better set.

Did not meet expectations
The "unsharpened" blade was said to be of training quality. However, there was a jagged edge on only one side of the metal as if it had not been deburred properly. The edge had to be taken off (which took some time about 2 hours) before it could be used safely to avoid injury. The metal that is connected to the wood seems slightly loose so it wouldn't be a surprise if the blade were to detach at some point in the future. However, for the price it's not bad and should get a lot of use out of it.

Love the kamas, they came within a few days, and the blades were nice and shiny. if your careful with them, their durable and have a nice weight to them. they look sharp without actually being sharp
