Bang for your Buck
First day with the 85mm manual focus . In all honesty, just get it! Such a great value for the quality images that this lens produces. I have used many AF lenses but they can focus on the wrong points.Manual focus really allows you to fine-tune your image. I feel at total control and I’m actually able to focus within seconds to capture a shot of a moving target.*I posted in out of the box landscape photoI’m excited for the future images!

A great cheap option for short telephoto applications
I'll go ahead and rate this on what most people will want to know: Yes, it's quite sharp, even wide open. Edge sharpness is quite good considering price. There is minimal vignetting at f/1.8, and it goes away completely by f/4. But it's not a big deal even at maximum aperture. This is a pretty large lens for what it is, but it's also light. It's mostly plastic for the housing, with a metal mount and metal-plastic composite elsewhere. Doesn't feel tank-like, nor does it feel especially cheap. Easy to handle on a A7-series body, but might be a little unbalanced on a A6000-series body. The focus ring is a little loose fitting, but it does turn smooth and is easy to use. It just makes a clicking noise as the ring slides forward/back when the lens is tilted. To clarify it doesn't make any noises or have issues when actually turned for focusing. It's loose from a front/back perspective. It does have electrical contacts to the camera, so you can electronically control the shutter. Additionally, aperture value and focal length info are passed through to the camera for EXIF recording in images. This is a great step forward for manual-focus lenses. The only real negative of this lens -- and I expect this will be solved in a firmware update -- is that when mounted to a body with IBIS, the IBIS does not work AT ALL. This is very strange, but I've seen multiple other reviewers confirm this. I'm guessing MEIKE will resolve this with a firmware update. The lens is better quality than what it costs, so I definitely rank it as an excellent value. The attached image was shot with a Sony A7III and is a 100% near the center of the original image.

Terrific Starter Mid-Telephoto
The media could not be loaded. So I mostly bought this lens because I was looking into the Sony SEL85F18 but wasn't quite prepared to spend $600 on a focal length I had no experience with [I tend to be more of a wide angle guy]. I figured for the price I'd be making some concessions but I would be able to get a good idea of how to use an 85mm, and I was correct. The biggest lesson I've learned so far: Shooting mid-telephoto handheld is HARD. Camera shake is amplified the longer your lens focal length is, so I recommend a tripod or a fast shutter speed. Don't even bother trying to shoot handheld video with an 85mm unless you're going for the shakeycam look.Obviously this lens doesn't have autofocus, so if that's a dealbreaker, you can stop now. It does have pins to communicate with the camera, so you do get EXIF data and electronic aperture control. I was very pleased to see that even though the focus is manual, the lens tells the camera when I'm changing focus so the focus zoom feature on my a6500 kicks in automatically just like one of my native Sony lenses without me having to bind it to one of my custom buttons. A nice touch that they could have easily overlooked, it makes the manual focus that much easier to swallow. The focus ring isn't the smoothest thing I've ever seen but with a little practice I'm pleased to report that you can, in fact, rack focus with this lense while shooting video. I don't really recommend it, but it can be done with a steady hand.I'm really enjoying the focal length, and while the image quality of the lens is pretty good, I can definitely notice a difference in image quality between my SEL35F18. But that lens is about $350 more expensive as well, so it's hard to complain about. For optimal sharpness, I'd stop it down to f/2.2 or smaller, but it's definitely usable wide open. Very good low-light performance as you would expect from an f/1.8 lens. This lens feels a little cheap in the hands. Mostly plastic construction except for the focus ring and the mount point. Again, for the price you can't be too nitpicky about things like that. Don't bounce it off the pavement, and I doubt you'll have any complaints. After using this lens for a while I'm honestly not even considering the SEL85F18 anymore because I'm so happy with this one.

Great bang for buck!
If you don’t mind manually focusing then this lens is a GREAT option!! I’ve been wanting a 85mm prime for a while but I didn’t really want to spend too much seeing as this is just a hobby for me. The price for what you get is actually really awesome!

Not a good lens option.
This is not a good option for a lens. Image seemed blurry whenever I took a photo even if I spent a while trying to focus it. There are some good cheap options out there for lenes, Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Focus ring gets stuck randomly
I really liked the lens but the problem was that the focus ring would get really hard to turn when i needed it to and would miss some awesome shots because of it.

Look good , feels good and make quality pictures!!
My first ever buyed lens ,I need some for portrait mode , because soon I should go to my cousin birthday, and she ask me to be a photographer on the event , I already got two kit lenses who came with camera but I’d like to have some for portraits, on the events like these we got a lot of parole and everybody want a picture , so I was thinking the best way to do it is to get a portrait lens , I shut a couple pictures (in the mirror) and is doing it’s job so far so good, look good , feel good and good quality!
