The rubber part does rub on the mat I have in front of the door so that is a little bit of a problem. I had to make a compromise between covering the large gap I had at the threshold and then clearing the floor and door mats. The aluminum frame was really tough to cut (used a hacksaw by hand) as the material is quite rigid. The rubber seal seems to be durable for holding up to time. When I trimmed it, the rubber still needed to be a bit wider. It was easy to install. I put a bead of caulk on it and pressed it to the bottom of the door. After a little while, I drilled small pilot holes and then used the screws supplied to install it. I noticed a decrease in the electricity used to cool the house right away. I highly recommend this for people who want to save money. The top is silvery metal and the bottom is a gray rubbery plastic. I easily shortened it be marking the length and bending it towards where the door would go(so no sharp edges stick out) and then cutting off the plastic part with scissors. Mine came in a huge box that looked like a waste of material, but then again it came perfectly straight so I have no complaints.
