I purchased this because the description stated it would work ...
I purchased this because the description stated it would work with Kindle Fire. It stated the app to link it to the kindle was on Amazon site. It was not! I spoke with Asus and they said I should contact Amazon. Spoke with Amazon four times until I found a person that would help me get the app. I had to download it from a Asus site that Amazon led me to. This was a major pain but....Amazon finally came through and made this work for me.Amazon customer support for the Kindle is top notch. Asus lied about the app location and it took Amazon three times to get it cleared up.

Great capacity, dated interface, convenient
The ASUS Wireless Duo is a nice compact media streaming hard drive. I loaded about 100GB of movies and music via the USB 3.0 port and that took just several minutes. Afterwards I was able to access the files by connecting to the ASUS Wireless Duo wireless network.I could not find the iOS app in the app store. I assume it is coming. I was able to play MP4 files and music on my iPad and iPod through Safari. You open the browser, try to go somewhere (seems random, but just type something and then hit the arrow, real URL is http://192.168.96.98/), and the Duo pops up as a file directory. Navigate to a movie or song, click, and it starts. There are a few "Zooms" you have to click to make it fit the screen, but easy enough. I get an error when I try to do the same with Chrome. It says it is compatible with "Internet Explore 10 for Windows Phone" and I was able to play music that way. Movies won't play regardless of format. You can download and play movies, but many phones just don't have the room for that. There appears to be no plan for a Windows app. It worked with my Windows 8.1 laptop as well, in desktop and metro browsers.I found the app at the Google Play store and downloaded it on my Nexus 5. It works very similarly to the webpage version, maybe a little faster. Click on a movie and you have to wait 10 seconds or so, but then the movie will start. Again just my MP4s, not WMV or AVI files. Same is true using Chrome on the Nexus.Plus:- Compact (it uses a 2.5" format HDD)- USB 3.0 fast downloads- Convenient to not have to download movies to several devices for family trips. Just take the one drive.Minus:- Limited to what can be streamed, such as MP4 video. Doesn't play WMV, AVI, and several other common files. Those files need to be downloaded and played natively if your device otherwise supports it.- Crude interface. It is an old-style file system format with little imagry. It is a bit slow to navigate.- Default there is no wifi password. If the drive is on and you are at a light, the folks in the next car over can check out what you have on the drive. Make sure nothing personal or put on a password.In-between:- I don't understand the SD card. With SD you are talking 64 or, max 128 GB. Not enough to back up this drive (which is likely a copy of files you have anyway.) They talk about backing up to the SD card, but how to back up 1TB to a 64GB card?- I'm not getting 6 hours of streaming yet; perhaps the battery needs to be cycled a few times.- No iOS app at the App Store (Yet?)- No Windows Metro App (likely never)- It takes a while to index the files (as far as I can tell) so leave it on and plugged in for a while after the initial download.- The wireless comes unsecured by default, but you can change the SSID and put on a password. There are other options; one seemed to allow a connection to a wireless network (passthrough) but I could not get it to work or figure out what it was.

Great HDD, if you don't want wireless features
I bought this external drive as a method of storing all the photos on my phone onto the drive, quickly and easily. I change phones often and I like to save the photos. Unfortunately, having to back up my phones is a bit more work than I wanted to do so I bought a wireless drive that has an app, in hopes that would make things easier. First, the good:1. Setup is easy. You plug it in, let it charge. Then once it's on, through the app on your phone, you can connect to it wirelessly2. There is an app3. Cost for the size and USB 3.0 is greatCons:1. The app is pretty useless. You could hire an unpaid intern to design something that looks better, is easier to use, and has more features.2. Bulk uploading from your phone is pretty much out of the question. So is auto-backup3. The build feels very cheap for the priceAll-in-all this is a great external HDD, if all you want is an external HDD. But then, you could save $100 and buy one that doesn't have built in Wi-Fi. If you wanted this for the wireless features and the app, look elsewhere. I returned it after 3 days.

A Solid Addition to my Photography Workflow
I am giving this drive 4 stars because it almost meets my needs as a photographer who uses the RAW format instead of JPG.This drive comes nicely packaged. The drive is thick and heavy and it feels solidly built. It comes with a simple instruction booklet that walks you through the steps you need to get up and running. It is actually quite simple. One of those steps tells you to connect to a PC to transfer files. I skipped this because I had a very specific use in mind for this drive. As a photographer, I wanted quick and easy backup of my SD cards on the road. This provides that capability. So I charged this drive eight (8) hours, installed the app on my phone, connected my phone to this drives built-in WiFi (insecure out of the box), and was up and running using the app's interface.I popped in my SD card from an old Android phone and copied it to the drive. The SD card goes in upside down. I didn't have any photos on this card, so I switched to a 64GB card that I had recently used to photograph an anniversary party. The card was full and is a Samsung Pro card (fast read and write speeds). It took this Wireless Duo drive 1.5 hours to copy all of the RAW photos. The Wireless Duo's battery drained almost completely during this time, so I had to plug it back in to charge. It turns out the app's capabilities don't include the ability to view RAW files. I should have expected this, as Windows cannot view RAW files either without additional codecs or software such as Lightroom or Photoshop. I then connected the drive to my PC and I was able to see that the files did copy. Oddly, when I was using the app, I could not traverse the SD card, or the Wireless Duo's own internal hard drive to see that the files actually copied. While connected to my PC, I copied a JPG to the drive and tried to access it wirelessly from the app. It seems the drive's WiFi only activates when the drive is not connected to a PC. Disconnecting from the PC stated the wireless connection and I was able to view the JPG from the app. This drive is easy to use, is simple to setup, and does what it says it will do, albeit, only for a short period of time as long as the battery has some juice or as long as you want if you keep it plugged into the included power adapter. It will make a great addition to my on-location photography workflow, as it will provide me the opportunity to make a backup on the road, even if I cannot see the files.I recommend this drive.
