Good, but not great for my needs
I bought this to replace a 4-5 year old flat-panel monitor. My preference for use is gaming, movies, remote office work, light photo editing, and lots of multitasking. I didn't test the sound since I have a nice sound system already available.PROS- Gorgeous appearance (front only)- Image quality (sharp)- Rich and vibrant colors- Extremely light and thin- Connection options- Matte finishCONS- Menu system- Occasional ghosting- Blacks not dark enough- Light glow from edges and very prominent in lower left screen.- Ergonomics- Alt-tab refresh issues- Screen flickers with normal useMENUThe menu system is absolutely horrible and nonintuitive. You may get frustrated trying to configure it to your preference. By trial and error you'll get better with it, but expect to accidentally touch a button that may undo your last configuration or accidentally bump yourself into the wrong the setting.PERFORMANCEI found performance for gaming and videos to be good/ok. There is the occasional ghosting in fps. I could see textures lines (e.g. where ground textures connect to each other) far more clearlyin games like WOT, BF, etc. In darker games (Eve, D3, SC, etc) the screen wasn't black enough due to the white wash from sides. This was most noticeable from the left lower portion of the screen.MULTI-TASKINGIf you alt-tab a lot, then you will dislike the way this one refreshes. When you hit alt-tab, the screen will go black for a few seconds and then the screen will prepare to display your new program. As it refreshes the image the monitor flashes. I saw the image develop in 100's of lines, flick in and out, and then it would start to display the full application; however, it would then flicker again as it set the color properly. This occurs mostly from tabbing out of a game and back to another program. When changing tabs in internet browsers (e.g. one bright and one dark) you'll notice the display change color tones to adjust the screen again. This happens even with different shades of white backgrounds. It's a noticeable and annoying pause as you watch the colors transition and your eyes adjust to it. It even happens for me in programs and different shades of white backgrounds. My other monitor made the transition much faster and without all of the eye-sore strobbing this monitor does. To me, this approach (and the strobbing) tired my eyes and I'd prefer to look away until the monitor fully rendered the image. In addition, when moving the mouse across the screen (i.e. browsers) the screen would show horizontal flickers as the mouse moved vertically. This even occurred over buttons within webpages. An entire section of the screen would flicker as I scrolled over buttons.DESIGN/AESTHETICSThe monitor has a lot going for it appearance-wise. It's slim, sleek and the front is dressed very nicely. But for such a sleek design they didn't do much for the rear of the monitor (which is very visible with my room configuration). The cables come out perpendicular to the monitor instead of straight down and/or hidden much lower in the frame. My desk faces a set of French-doors and the cabling job is very noticeable from the hallway. The connections are almost halfway up the backside of the monitor. This design may not be ideal for a wall-mount if that is your need.WHAT'S INCLUDEDThe included video cable is too short. Expect to buy longer cables if you order this item. (list to be updated).ERGONOMICSThe monitor sits on a sundial. It has a single joint for movement which is only tilting up and down. You cannot raise it. You cannot pivot it unless you turn the entire display stand. The monitor sits a little lower than my last monitor which I personally disliked since Im 6'2. I couldn't get the monitor to a good height unless I used more objects for it to sit on.CONCLUSIONThe Asus MX239H, 23-Inch Full HD AH-IPS LED-backlit monitor is a good display, but it wasn't great for my video/gaming need and personal preferences. I think those who prefer more static usage and photo editing will greatly appreciate this monitor. The upgrade from my previous monitor was significant. The images were significantly sharper, cleaner and more vibrant than my 4 year old monitor. While it displayed colors fantastically, the blacks weren't deep enough for my preference and the lightening (especially the lower left corner and edges) hampered a few favorite "darker" games. The design aesthetics were good, but didn't match my room configuration. Overall, if I wasn't so picky I could keep this one. But when spending approximately $200 on a display, I prefer to have most of needs satisfied.

Great for consoles, bad with computers. Invest more and buy something else
I was incredibly excited for this monitor until I got it. I didn't want anything huge, but I wanted something around $200, 1080p, with HDMI and of good quality. If you're looking for great picture quality or an excellent experience, look elsewhere.PICTURE AND CONTROLSThe blacks are not that deep, so contrast for movies or gaming is pretty weak. I bought this display for school and my photography work, but it's not clear it can only be trusted for school. I go into this more later on. The mat display itself is pretty nice though, and the matt screen is a nice touch. The buttons for adjusting volume or brightness are finicky. All the buttons are touch sensing, so you don't press them, you merely just hold on them. They work 75% of the time.BUILD QUALITY AND ADJUSTING STANDIt's okay, and what you should expect at this price range. Once you attach the stand, it's a bit firm to tilt it, but at least it tilts. It doesn't go up and down. Doesn't bother me, but it may bother others.ADJUSTING PICTURE AND GLITCHESYikes, forget the different modes included. It seems as if the developers just designed a few profiles and thought they were good enough, but they really don't make any sense in their adjustments. If you buy it, just choose one and stick with it. The profile for this display people say is in Windows 10, and that seems about right in my experience. If you're on a Mac, as someone who owned a Cinema Display before this, I'd say put your money elsewhere, even if it's not a Cinema Display since that's obviously on a whole other price bracket. The first reason is because the color production is horrible. It looks so s***ty out of the box. There's no profiles anywhere online, so you'll have to create your own. You can only create a "good" one through the "advanced mode," which has a bit of a clunky set up. I've done it about 6 times, and every time I have some other color issue: midtones are red, whites are green, etc.The BIGGEST issue is the glitches. This only happens to me when I have my computer plugged in (opposed to my Xbox). Every time, without fail, the monitor will go black, then do the static look like what you'd get in the old days, and you'd lose audio. This happens for as long as 10 seconds to 2 minutes. I often just unplug it and re-plug it back in, but I find the issue and the solution to be unacceptable. I'm so unhappy I'd like to ask for a refund, but the hassle of shipping it back properly is too much for me, and for $200 I'll deal with the issues.

On screen display of monitor settings is difficult to use
Very good colour and sound, but the on screen display for the monitor settings is very difficult to use. The menu times out and disappears in far too quickly - in about 30 seconds - which is not enough time to consider what you need to do if you are not familiar with it. The meaning of the symbols used on the buttons and the display is far from obvious, and there is no explanation of the various options in the user guide which comes with the monitor. (for instance, what do 'splendid demo mode' and 'reading mode' mean?).The angle of the screen can be adjusted but not the height, which is fixed with the bottom of the display about 10cm above the surface it is standing on. You can always stand on something to make it higher, but if you prefer to have it lower and look down at it slightly there is no way of doing it.

A solid product, been using it for 3 years and still going!
Got two of these for my pc set up. Absolutely love them as the quality is good, the build is great and the ips panel is an absolute joy to look at. My only regret is not getting 27" versions of them to get some more real estate.

Excellent monitor and good looking too
I have this monitor since November 2016 and I am very pleased with it. I use it for general use and gaming. When I was buying I wanted the image quality of IPS but was concerned about ghosting issues due to response time. This monitor has a 5ms response time and I have had zero issues with ghosting. I highly recommend this product.
