Nice bag, but may have to keep an eye out for improper sewing
UPDATE1: After more than 1.5yrs of use, other than the initial tearing off (and after I put some superglue to fix it) the bag seems to last well. There's no other tearing or anything visible.I use it everyday to carry my laptop and sometimes couple of other stuff, but nothing VERY heavy. So increasing the review to 4 stars.OLD review:I've been using this bag for few months now, but as soon as I got the bag (like within a week) one of the straps sewing had came off at a one place for a length about 1 inch (improper sewing). That was without even really using the bag. I've applied some super-glue on the place to make sure it doesn't open up any more.To get that just after very light use of 1 week was really bad. I came from using Targus brand, which were very solid in my experience. Main reason for the change was the nice design.Since then few months passed, there's not much of other issues.By the way its not really water resistant. It can keep light rain getting to the inside but any more rain than that, moisture will appear in the books etc inside the bag.

Tested and proven tough with one weak link (not a deal breaker)
Boght this to replace an older version with red trim that I had when I started school 3 years ago.The older one came apart in the drink holder area when the netting started to rip.The bag started to flatten out a bit over time as well.Still, it offers good protection for all of my stuff and it can take a beating. Regular use from an undergrad toting books, notebooks, laptops, chargers, voice recorders, batteries, lunches, staplers, USB drives, you name it. Sad to retire the old one, but glad they still offer this design.

Sturdy backpack yet lightweight
This is my second purchase of this backpack.. The first one was for myself and the second one for my wife.. :) I was lucky to get both in deals under $30. Sturdy backpack yet lightweight.. It looks great.. It's spacious and can accommodate a big Dell laptop and your lunch box too.. FYI the first one that I bought for myself is still in use.. :) It's the 5th year for it and it's in great condition and looks.. Quality product and highly recommended..

Great for College
Great backpack for college. I bought this product for my boyfriend for college. He could easily carry his laptop, textbooks, notebooks and water bottle with ease in this backpack! It is super comfortable and lasted a long time!

Bag is smaller than a similar one bought a few years ago. Seems as if the makers have cut back on size.

4 years and still going strong!
I bought this bag as my every day bag for university. It's now 4 years later, and the bag has not only been used to carry a laptop onto campus every day, but also been my every day bag for a year spent working in industry, as well as the bag I used to transport everything from camera equipment to a compact sleeping bag on various travels around Europe and even a trip to Mexico! Besides some slight wear on the ventilated netting on the back, you'd struggle to notice the bag was more than a few weeks old. That includes at the strap attachment points, which have constantly been put under far more strain than you'd think they had been built for. It's certainly not an attractive option, but I simply can't fault it's capacity. It's also protected the main bag area when pens have burst in the front section, and seems to keep it's content relatively dry when subjected to some rain. I've always found it to be a comfortable fit on my back (although I occasionally wish for chest straps). Overall, this bag has proven itself a fantastic investment. And it wont be retired any time soon!

The Best!
Ah what can I say about my faithful backpack, it is the best at its price, the extra pouches inside the front pocket for pens and other accessories, the key ring attacher, the holes to tie up your shoes or other essentials for camping, it makes for an all round laptop backpack. I have a XPS Dell Laptop, which is relatively large. It fits into the bag perfectly. very comfortable, cushioned straps that do not hurt your shoulders inspite of excess weight. All in all, a really good backpack, holds in not just the laptop but heavy books and my squash and badminton racquets (the faces of the rackets fit in easily into the laptop pocket when you're not carrying the laptop with you, so you can use this even for leisure trips). Five stars!

amazeballs!!!
I got this backpack for Uni as over the last few years I went through several cheaper rucksacks (karrimor, berghaus, tresspass) and found that they don't last long if I carry more than 5 books at a time in them (I think one of the karimor models only lasted 2 weeks after purchase). This swissgear model is ideal for my needs - very roomy & sturdy. After 2 months of heavy use (up to 10 books, laptop & other essentials carried around 5 days a week) it shows no visible signs of wear. The main back compartment fits my 16" widescreen laptop with ease as well as a couple of A4 notebooks, ring binder or several books. The middle compartment has enough room for another few books or notebooks, but could also be used for things like wallet, cosmetics bags or gym gear. The front compartment has loads of useful pockets - phone/mp3 player pocket inside, as well as other compartments. It has a side pocket which I use for things I need to access easily (keys, train tickets etc.), which also has a mesh pocket on top of it (perfect for a small folding umbrella). On the other side it has a mesh water holder, which holds a large (1L) water bottle securely. It is actually quite amazing how many things I can fit into it! I find it perfect for my supermarket shopping & used it once to pack for a weekend away & found it big enough for my needs (essential cosmetics, laptop & a couple of changes of clothes). I love the style of it as well, simple and clean design, goes with everything & looks unobtrusive. I also like how smooth the zips work, which I guess isn't that important for the practicality of the backpack (although I can probably get my stuff out in around 0.3 seconds faster since I got it;),but goes to show that high quality materials went into making of this product. The straps and back padding make it comfortable to carry heavy loads in. I think it will also be useful as a cabin luggage when travelling as it seems the right size for a carry-on bag. I'm still to test it on my bike, hopefully it will be secure enough while cycling as there is no waist strap for extra security, though judging by the last 2 months of use I shouldn't worry about it too much.Overall a brilliant product, one of my best purchases on amazon & a great value for money as well. I only regret I didn't invest in it sooner, as I've wasted quite a bit of money on cheaper but less durable rucksacks over the years.

Excellent backpack
I bought this to ferry my laptop to and from uni in the train. First impression as soon as I put it on: wow, this feels great. I love the multiple pockets it has, the discreet black look and that it is quite light. I agree with some other reviewers that the internal computer pocket could have been padded better at the bottom, but I am very careful handling my backpack anyway, and usually stick my extra scarf / hat at the bottom, so it is not a major drawback.

Very robust but needs to be...
I bought this as travel a lot with my job and take my laptop with me wherever i go. Used to use a bag over the shoulder but my back started to disintergrate with age so had to look for a more ergonomic alternative.I don't think it'll win any awards for fashion although looks ok but is really well made and strong. I've been using it for the best part of a year and really putting it through it's paces with no major signs of breaking!!!
