Best Thermal Camera Under $2000
In addition to the FLIR One Pro, I’ve used the FLIR E5-XT, FLIR TG 165, and Seek Compact Pro all within the last several months. My primary application is for assessing medium-sized electronics. The Seek represents a great value with high thermal resolution and captures relatively crisp thermal-domain images, but the app is of limited functionality and awful support. It's been a great tool but desperately needs updating. I keep an old Pixel phone only so that I can continue using the Seek. The handheld FLIR E5-XT was a decent camera, but was very expensive and offered limited functionality. Images were inferior to the inexpensive Seek. I don't think it could capture video. It came with a nice case and seemed to be a durable unit. The TG 165 was marginally more than a toy. The camera offered shockingly little in terms of functionality. No custom scaling could be applied to the images, and the single indicated measured temperature was not aligned with the image, making it basically useless for anything other than finding massive air leaks in residential applications. The FLIR One Pro has been the best of all of these, independent of price. I bought an iPod Touch to dedicate to the thermal camera. The accuracy of the temperature values are not great and they do shift around during use - 5 to 10C of error between 0 and 100C is typical. This isn’t a deal breaker for me; if I need a precise reference, I can keep ice water or boiling water in the frame. The app has a fantastic amount of functionality, permitting the use of multiple manual measurement points, manual temperature range scaling, and selective use of the optical and thermal cameras. It’s great for transient measurements and has been an indispensable tool for my applications.

Great product for household maintenance
Great product! I have a ceiling that leaks when there are heavy winds and rain. I wanted to see if this would pick up the path of the leak. I think it’s coming from shotty siding on the outside above the Bay window. I have an older house (that is very well built) and felt I needed this product for preventative maintenance. (update: 19JULY2021, today we had very heavy rain and winds. The ceiling leaked overnight. I have ruled out the bay window and the outside siding. I now believe the leak is coming from a plumbing vent pipe and the wind is thrashing a damage roof boot and rain is leaking under the flashing and traveling down the pipe, because it puddles in the same area.) This product does everything I need it to do and more. If you have moisture build-up it’s going to cause a leak. This device can find moisture in the walls because, moisture holds on to heat longer and will show up along the electromagnetic spectrum (actual radiated heat!) at a different surface temp than the drier portions of wall/ceiling around it. The Pro version comes with a thermal sensor and a camera that simultaneously takes a photo of the visible light and then processes both thermal and image together making it (not technically, but functionally) 1. High resolution (for at least 3m from what I’ve gathered so far) 2. For the distance (at least 3m I’ve tested), it’s pretty much Hyper-spectral! Because of the spectral range comparing temperature variations. It’s a heat map. Everyone loves heat maps. The only thing better than this would be to Buy the FLIR Drone! Because why not? I don’t have the money, or I would have. NOTE: I did receive a used device. There were pictures loaded from April 2020. So it must have been a returned item. There was nothing wrong with the item, and I kept it. It is an expensive product, for what it is. Although extremely cool and valuable at times, it makes life easier, it’s limited to vague diagnosis. It’s never happened before through Amazon. So I thought I should mention it here.

Versatile and User-Friendly with Limitations
The Flir One Pro thermal camera, designed to work seamlessly with iPhones using the lightning connection, is a tool that blends innovation with practicality. I have used this camera for a variety of tasks, from identifying insulation gaps in my home to spotting nocturnal wildlife and even aiding in home improvement projects like hanging paintings. While the Flir One Pro stands out in certain aspects, it also has limitations that potential users should consider. Versatility and Use Cases: The Flir One Pro's versatility is its strongest suit. Its ability to easily connect to an iPhone makes it incredibly user-friendly for various applications. Detecting insulation gaps is effortless, providing a clear understanding of where heat loss occurs in a home. Its utility extends beyond typical use cases; for instance, its effectiveness in spotting animals in trees at night is remarkable. The camera also proves handy for DIY projects, such as locating beams in walls, which is invaluable for safe and precise installation of fixtures and artwork. Connectivity and App Features: Another commendable feature is the device's connectivity. The lightning connection to the iPhone is stable and reliable, ensuring seamless integration with the phone's interface. The accompanying app is robust, offering a range of options and settings that enhance the thermal imaging experience. These features make the Flir One Pro not just a thermal camera but a sophisticated diagnostic tool. Accuracy: In terms of accuracy, the Flir One Pro delivers commendably. It provides detailed thermal readings, making it a reliable tool for both professional and personal use. This level of precision, especially in identifying problematic areas in home insulation, adds significant value to the device. Drawbacks - Frame Rate and Resolution: However, the Flir One Pro is not without its drawbacks. The most notable is its low frame rate and resolution, especially when compared to newer and often cheaper alternatives in the market. These limitations can affect the clarity and smoothness of the thermal imaging, especially in dynamic situations or when fine details are crucial. Battery Life and Charging: Another downside is its reliance on an independent battery, which requires regular charging. The inconvenience of the device not drawing power directly from the iPhone means that one might often find the camera with a depleted battery when needed. This aspect can be particularly frustrating for users who require the camera for spontaneous or urgent tasks. Cost Consideration: Lastly, the cost of the Flir One Pro is a significant factor. It is an expensive device, and while it offers a range of applications, its price point might not justify its purchase for everyone. Potential buyers should assess their specific needs and frequency of use before investing in this thermal camera. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Flir One Pro thermal camera is a sophisticated and versatile tool that excels in connectivity and accuracy. Its range of applications, from home improvement to wildlife observation, is impressive. However, its lower frame rate and resolution, coupled with the inconvenience of battery charging and a high price tag, make it a device best suited for those with specific, frequent uses for thermal imaging.

DOESN’T SHOW FARTS!
This could be a good thing or bad thing, but either way your silent but deadly secrets are kept safe on screen. Now that I’ve got that out.... The Pro version is worth it, even for the average joe. The Standard version is just so limited. This is a great little camera, especially for the money. The coolest feature that surprised me is the fact all the temperature data is stored with the photo, so after one photo is taken of an area, you do not need to take any more. Go in to the gallery, and play all you want. It automatically saves a copy to your photo gallery, making it easy to share images just like any other photo. Bandpass filtering lets you adjust a min and max temperature however you see fit, then you can drag the whole band up and down the temperature scale. For example, if you’re filming a car engine, you can set your band to 80–100F to start (a 20F band). Once the engine gets hot, swipe up and it will move the band up (to something like 85-105). This thing will detect my cat’s footprints after he walks by, provided you configure the settings correctly. The fact you can switch between a regular photo image, thermal image, or a combination is so freaking useful for identifying thermal artifacts in an image. Case in point, figuring out those spots on the floor were my cat’s paw prints. My biggest worry was the low resolution, but I wasn’t fully understanding what it meant. The CAMERA resolution is pretty good, the THERMAL resolution is the one that looks horrible, but when it comes together, you realize the thermal image resolution looks plenty fine when it’s overlaid on the regular photo. This also has linked software foe troubleshooting home heating and air conditioning. Awesome. What else? That’s all I can think of. Fart at will, y’all.

Make no mistake, FLIR is the industry standard for Infrared Thermography
I trained and certified on $10k FLIR T530 equipment, and I have to say that this FLIR Pro LT model (iPhone Lightning) does exceptionally well for what it is designed to do. As the mantra goes- in IR, it is all about Focus, Focus, Focus. Aligning the visible light camera depending on your distance yields marked improvement in your scans, as does maintaining a consistent distance and blocking of your own heat signature on your target. The fact that this device is self powered means you can tether and position the equipment to further avoid reflective degradation of your target due to emissivity issues. I was skeptical of the performance to cost ratio, but I liked the results of the iPhone Lightning Pro LT model so much, I upgraded to the full Pro. The battery life is no mystery- FLIR fully discloses this in the user manual. 45 minutes to 1 hour of scan time. I've included a T530 scan, and 3 others from the LT. Happy Scanning!

The best bang for your buck!
I have been using this thermal camera for a couple months now and it has been absolutely invaluable for helping identify issues that are inside of walls and ceilings. It is also been very helpful for identifying if water spots are fresh or old within ceiling tiles and has made things a lot easier as far as identifying issues with temperature because rather than sitting there with thermometers or laser thermometers, or even touching things or hands can just bring up the camera pointed at it if it’s blue, you know there’s an issue if it’s not, you know there’s not an issue And it really just makes things a lot easier for the price that it is. I don’t think you can really get better quality from the fact that it’s on your phone means that it’s very easy to take the photos that you need and send them off to people who need them rather than having to take the device and plug it into a computer and deal with transferring anything it just simplifies everything Additionally, due to its small size it fits in a very very small case that can fit within your pocket or your path back if you worry about damage you can place it into a pelican style case and even then it still fits very comfortable into a backpack. It makes it through TSA just fine and honestly this is just a must have if you need a lower resolution, but reliable thermal camera for your job

Gives you x-ray vision on your house
This thing blows my mind. At first, I had sticker shock and told myself, “Well, just try it out.” I bought it to figure out if I had frozen pipes in my house during the winter and told myself I’d return it after. That was four months ago - I still have it because I fell in love. Good news is that the Flir showed me that my pipes were perfectly fine (and warm!) but that my dishwasher’s filter that was clogged. This is a new house and I wouldn’t have known to check. That right there saved me a plumber’s inspection and bill! It’s so fun to use that I kept looking at other stuff around the house. I found a whole bunch of spots in the walls where cold air was coming through around light switches and wall outlets. Also discovered problems in my attic. I’m also able to check for water leaks by running hot water and see where that water really goes on the camera! Figured out the door to the garage was in desperate need of weatherstripping - the house stays much warmer now and that right there dropped my heating bill by $50 a month. This camera has already paid for itself and I haven’t even used it for a really tough job - verify an insulation installer did their job! I’ll be hiring one soon and I’m actually looking forward to it instead of dreading it. I’ve had this Flir since December and so far the battery is a champ and I love how easy it is to recharge. The controls are pretty easy to figure out (fun to play with!) and I like how the temperature readings display precision to 0.1 degrees. 11/10 would buy again.

Great IR camera. Well made and great image quality.
I had used an earlier model of a FLIR IR camera for a few years, the image quality was too poor to identify hot components clearly on an SMD PCB. With the improved resolution and the superimposed edge enhancement this camera produces much better images, and is exactly what I needed. Well worth it for me.

Deserves 6 stars
Has own power supply so you need to turn it ON when you plug it in and wait a few seconds for an image to come onto the screen. Be patient. Refresh rate seems slow but that’s the case with all thermal cameras costing less than £20,000! Image quality and ease of use make this a great bit of kit. It is essentially the same sensor and features as the FLIR E6 which is a £2000 camera. Make sure you download the FLIR ONE app and the FLIR Tools app. The latter does some post processing and let’s you generate a range of different PDF reports that you can email straight from the app!!! The attached image is showing rainwater penetration through the outside wall of a Victorian house (defective rainwater pipe). Brilliant for building diagnostics.

iOS vs Android
