Oki Image Drum for B410/B430/B440 Desktop Mono Printers - Black

This is a replacement image drum (part number 43979002) that fits OKI MB460, MB470 and MB480 printers, as well as the B410, B430 and B440 currently listed on the product page. It should produce around 25,000 printed pages in its life (and will thus not need to be replaced as frequently as the toner cartridge).The drum is wrapped in a black plastic bag within the shipping box; keep the bag as it makes an ideal container for the spent drum and helps to avoid spilt toner. There's a plastic strip to pull away from the drum as well as a plastic cover (both bright orange) that covers the insert for the toner.Signs that the drum needs to be replaced are spots of toner on printed pages as well as odd, smudgy lines on documents. The first time this happened I thought it was a fault with a new toner cartridge and it was only after speaking to the technical bods at OKI that the problem was identified.My printer displays the remaining lifespan of disposables and is usually fairly accurate when it comes to the toner itself. My experience differs with the drum (four times now) as the printer indicates it still has capacity remaining (between 30-40% usually) when the smudging suggests otherwise.Although I'm disappointed the drum never seems to last as long as the printer indicates it should, I'm sticking with genuine parts for now to avoid breaching the terms of my in-office repair warranty. Once that expires, I may weigh up whether refurbished or compatible alternatives are worth a shot.
