GE 29868GE1 Digital Answering Machine

This answering machine is junk.Don't buy it.Don't take it if someone offers to give it to you for free.Don't take it even if someone wants to PAY you to take it.Since I bought it new just a year or so ago, this piece of crap has been an unbelievable hassle. Every few weeks the "F" indicator would light, supposedly indicating a full memory, even with NO messages stored. The only way to reset it was to unplug the unit, at which point it would lose all of its settings, even with a BRAND-NEW battery installed. About every third time when I hung up the telephone, the machine would beep and lose all of its settings. I gave up recording a greeting early on, because it never lasted long enough to make it worth while. Finally, today I hung up the phone and the machine immediately displayed "8" in the message counter and went completely dead. DEAD. Unplugging and replugging, removing the battery, nothing works. The buttons might as well not be connected to anything. It's a paperweight.HOW can any company market a piece of junk like this that does not work??? I will NEVER buy another GE home product. NEVER!

Originally I bought this machine over 10 years ago. And when it died recently after a lightning hit I wanted to replace with exactly the same model because I loved it and got so much used to it.I found this at Amazon. Someone was selling new (and it was new when arrived), but it was little expensive.

I bought the machine on 6/22 .... today's 7/6! I liked it up until a few days ago. It was my first digital answering machine ..... and I LOVED being able to delete just one message at a time instead of having to delete them all. Well -- the machine is now displaying the letter "F" for FULL even though it holds ZERO messages. Worst part: it won't accept any new messages .... and is therefore COMPLETELY USELESS as an answering machine!!I read the user guide that comes with the product and there is no information in there (nor on the web) on how to address this problem. In addition, I have found that it is just about IMPOSSIBLE to get "customer service" or any help whatsoever (either via the web, or by phone) from "Thompson Multimedia" .... the company that makes "GE" branded consumer electronics, including this answering machine. THAT makes it highly UNlikely that I'll buy another one of THEIR products again. I hope they saved alot of money on their 1-800-voice-jail system, because they just lost future sales (from me an perhaps others) over it.Well gotta go now .... off to the store to replace this 2-week-old broken down piece of junk with another machine (from another manufacturer of course). Hopefully, I'll have better luck this time. Bye!

great machine when it is working, but the digital memory flashes "full" when there is nothing in the memory. as a result it does not function as answering machine. can't get the erase function work.

All the functions on this machine work well. It's as easy to set up as any other machine. The only BIG drawback is the sound quality. Incoming is okay but not great. It's impossible to leave a good outgoing message that doesn't sound like you're in a tunnel. I bought it for a retail business and it just doesn't sound professional at all.I'm tossing it out and buying another...

Every 2 weeks, the machine shows F, even when there are no messages on it. While the F is showing, the system will not accept messages. The unit must be completely unplugged and powered down in order to clear it. Then of course, the machine must be reprogrammed. Reprogramming is anything but intuitive. I tried to find the manual on line. Most companies post their product manuals on line as PDF's. If GE has it posted, I could not find it. I would not recommend this machine to anyone. I am sure there are better ones out there. I would gladly replace this one with my old cassette based unit.
