I love this rod holder. It is my primary when I'm out on the kayak fishing off the shore of the Pacific ocean in the Monterey Bay Area. I've been using it for more than four years now and it has never failed, broken, or shown any hint of weakness - and it's been pulled on by some monster fish. By halibut, to ling cod, to leopard and nurse sharks - this rod holder has been yanked back and forth. I've nearly been pulled over a few times by large fish on - this rod holder has never budged. Another great product by Cannon. You can't go wrong this rod holder. Tight lines, folks. (Thumbs up emoji)

I really like these rod holders. I have been using them for over 10 years. Really heavy duty plastic.

They are ideal for baitcasters, primarily round reels like Abu 5000-7000 series or Shimano Corvalus, Cardiff, Calcutta, etc... When the reel is in the outermost position, rods with a trigger will usually hold very firmly in the slot in the bottom. The versatility to swivel and angle to any position is critical in my fishing. They come with a surface/side mount but you can accessorize to mount on a rail, or flush. They also have 8" extensions to raise the holder up. Plenty strong for fish up to striper/salmon. Easy to remove (if mounted correctly) by swiveling to the inboard (perpendicular to the gunwale) position. Lost a star because of the following: Cons: Shaft could be beefier, they will break if too much side force is applied. I had the teeth in the vertical angle adjustment get stripped out by a large fish hitting. Keep the knob VERY TIGHT when fishing for bigger species. The points on the top and end of the holder should be rounded off. Looks fancy and edgy, but hurts like hell and snags clothing if you brush by.

Price was great, and the adjustment is excellent. I bolted the blocks side mount style inside my gunnel, and can rotate them just like any other holder. Then you can switch to the other hole and aim it straight up and down to hold a net or gaff. The lock is smoother and easier to move than others I have used but still has a nice solid detent on it to keep it locked or open. The bases are great in that they are universal, no need to order separate bases for a top or side mount situation. Compared to Fish-on and Attwood brand holders, the hole pattern in the bases is slightly wider in the long direction, but it was no big deal to shift the mount slightly and re-drill the holes. The base covered up the old ones so they do not show. Update: No issues after several years of use now. The fit of the post into the mount is tight when new but did wear in and now is really nice. Sunlight hasn't made them all ugly like some other brands I've owned in the past. Smaller poles will rattle around in them but they do fit without issue. I run anything from light trout gear to 20oz bottom fishing jigs and haven't had any trouble with them. I'm surprised people expect mounting hardware. There is so many different materials and thicknesses these could bolt to that it would cost $10 each more for cannon to include hardware to cover EVERY situation, I'll go to the store and get what I need thanks. I ended up using 1/4" stainless phillips pan heads thru the aluminum gunnel extrusion from the outside, with SAE washers and nylock nuts on the inside. Only used 2 of the four holes here. On my other boat which is fiberglass, I thru bolted to the gunnel using all 4 holes.

No need to wait until instal to review. This is a rock solid rod holder and extension. For those who have complained about the break in period because 360 pull/push is hard to orientate...you absolutely want it to be hard to pop out. It's a tabbed recess so it won't get yanked out by Walter. Excellent product Update: Install was super easy and I deffinatly wanted to use my hardware of choice for my application. You have a life long customer Cannon and I am speaking about the life of the rod holders not mine. I ordered two more right after I installed the first two. No brainer...
