America's First Fly Dope! The New England Original. We've brought back the original 1882 Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope Formula...Contains no DEET. Whether you call it Ole Woodsman, Old Woodsman, Old Woodsmans or Old Woodsman's or just plain Fly Dope, one thing is for sure... it really works! While fishing in Maine in 1910, Obie Sherer and his fishing buddy, Dr. Donald Adams decided they needed to come up with something to make spring fishing in the Maine wilderness a little more enjoyable. Working from an old 1882 recipe, they mixed up a batch of Fly Dope. On their next trip to Maine, a logging crew spotted Obie fishing peacefully. Obie told the foreman all about his Fly Dope and agreed to make a batch for the company. When the first batch was used up, the woods crews clamored for more. As a result, Obie decided to go into business and named his new product "Ole Time Woodsman" in honor of his first customers. Since then, generations of outdoors folk have continued to rely on Ole Time Woodsman to make their wilderness experience more comfortable, peaceful and memorable.

Smells like citronella and kerosine
Smells awful. I wouldn't want this in my skin. Smells like citronella and kerosine. Maybe that's why it may work. Schools out on the conclusion. I put drops on a paper towel and clipped to my hat to keep the dear flies from attacking my head in northern Wisconsin. It didn't keep them from annoying me but the also didt land on me either. They are just a pain in the butt anyway.

Great product, and hard to find
So happy to find this stuff, as some of the men in our family swear it's the best bug repellant out there, but it's getting harder to find in the shops. The smell is ... unusual... and ... strong... I don't use it myself, and it's not for everyone, but apparently it's great stuff! We keep a bottle in the truck and they always take it camping.

I did smell like an oil can but got used to it
It did what it was supposed to do, keep those black flies at bay in northern Vermont. I did smell like an oil can but got used to it. Was fun, when my hike was done to pass it on to other hikers and watch them wince bit after telling them one drop was not enough

Works amazing!
My husband is a hunter and gets bit by bugs all the time. He tried this product and was worried about how it easily it was going to be put on and how it would work. He said it was super easy to use, not nearly as sticky ad he thought. And the bugs stayed away!

The Very Best
I first used this stuff back in 1960 when we lived up in Northern Maine, nothing I have tried before or sense works as well. From the jungles of Vietnam to the rain forests of Washington and Oregon, to the islands of the Caribbean, nothing works as well. That said, this stuff has a "distinctive" aroma. Some folks can't stand it. To me it smells like peace and protection. I am living proof that this stuff doesn't have any long term health hazards; something that can't always be said of modern products that contain DEET.Doug

Used this product on a 133 mile hike in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State in June. I was very pleased. needs to be reapplied frequently on areas where you are sweating a lot.
