no tic-tack but it seems to work great.
Really like the watch, was looking for some device to keep track of heart rate when exercising. This does a nice job, I swim and this is water proof, OK I do not know if it is water proof to 50 Meters, butit is waterproof in a swimming pool, I doubt if I will use it to the full 50 meter depth. I will take to Ohau and try it out inHanna-ma bay, but 20 feet is a deep as I will go.I will assume the watch is fairly accurate in its performance, I compared the heart rate with the gymon the bicycle machine and the comparisons were only 2 beats apart. So will say it is fairly accurate, but moreimportant it give me a idea of actually how hard I am working,Watch is more than adequate for my wrist, and display is not over sized. The band has a almost a rectangular protrusion on its end that fits in a cut out for the wrist strap hold down. Nice feature, clean look when wearing.. Some people have commented on the heart readout not working properly, I found out if I lick the finger I use on the bezel it seems to work fine.Of course in the water the reading will be erratic because of the greater conductivity. The only other thing I noticed is in the days of the week, Tuesday the letter " t" the horizontal member is fine but the vertical member is thin, about 1/2 the thickness of the horizontal member. I thought there was some defect in my watch but all of the "t's" look the same way,All in all I am happy with the watch.

Practical for Moderate Exercise
I bought this watch to replace a lesser model made by another company that stopped working. This is the second HRM watch I've owned that doesn't require the use of the chest strap. The lack of a chest strap makes this watch more practical for everyday use. It works great for monitoring my heart rate during moderate exercise. However, it is less effective during high intensity training. When you touch the stainless steel face, you are completing an electrical circuit generated by the electrophysiology of your heart. While your skin is designed to complete the circuit, moisture (water and sweat) work just as well. The watch has a built in feature to prevent itself from constantly checking your HR when you sweat profusely via intense exercise. The watch has a lock mode that requires you to reset this function in order to capture your HR. I found that while exercising vigorously (basketball, intense running, circuit training) I sweat enough that this watch will continuously try to measure my heart rate until the locking feature is activated. This is counter-productive to the activity feature which allows you to track calories burned during an exercise by periodically measuring your HR.However, the solution I've found to this problem is simple. I will take the watch off, put it in my pocket or next to my water bottle, and when I want to record my heart rate I will place it on a dry area of my body and touch the stainless steel face. This works very well. Though it may be somewhat inconvenient, I find that it's very effective and only necessary during high intensity training.I have not had any problems with the watch during moderate training (bicycling, walking, light jogging, etc.). As long as I'm not sweating profusely, the watch works very well while on my wrist. Excessive movement also makes it difficult to record your HR (i.e. while running), but briefly stopping, 5-8s, is plenty of time to record your heart rate and continue exercising.Overall I am satisfied with the product. Price point and convenience were the two main reasons I purchased the watch and I've been very happy with it so far.

Doesn't work
So, we got this watch to use during our workout to control the heart rate. This function is terrible. In order to see your heart rate you need to stay touching the watch for about 8 seconds and have our hand on the right position or it is going to give you a very WRONG heart rate. also if you touch more than 2-3 times during one hour. It locks and in order to see it again you need to remove the watch, have it off for 1-2 minutes and put it back on. It works fine as a watch but not as a hear rate monitor.

Not Bad, but Not Great
I bough tthis obviously for the heart rate monitor which works well, when it works. If you do not lock the heart rate feature, you will hear beeping constantly. If your wrist is bent, the skin touches both sides of the watch, which in turn takes a rate and beeps. When you work out or sweat in any way, the watch will not take the proper heart measurement. Sometimes, it will not take a rate at all when you are sweating. I gave it three stars simply because it seems durable and I like the simplicity of the design. However, if you are serious about your exercise routines and want to keep a real track of your heart rate, do yourself a favor and spend a little more money on a better and more reliable watch.

Exceeded My Expectations
I purchased this watch mostly to monitor my heart rate while exercising and to time my workouts.I first tried out the heart rate feature. Once the watch was strapped onto my left wrist, a brief (5 to 8 second) touch of the metal case with the index figure of my right hand repeatedly produced an accurate heart rate reading. The length of time that reading was displayed seemed about right. This feature works both in both "time of day" and "stopwatch" mode. The other modes are: Countdown Timer, Activity, Alarm, and Second Time Zone. I haven't really tried those modes, so I can't report on how loud the alarm is in Alarm mode and if it would be a suitable backup for a travel alarm clock. The stopwatch mode also works very well. It displays the elapsed time to the 1/100 of a second (at least up to one hour), which is more digits than I need. But the control of this feature is simple after a quick read of the enclosed manual. The Indiglo(R) feature works better than in my other watches and thus was a pleasant surprise. This lights up just the digits rather than the whole display and so produces an easy-to-read image in the dark. All in all, if your needs in a sports watch are fairly simple, you'll find this watch a very good value.
