Mattel Minecraft 2-in-1 Sword and Pickaxe

My son is a huge fan of Minecraft just like a lot of other kids are these days. But at age 9 he has a very limited budget and folks these products aren't cheap in case you haven't noticed. Anyway, we saw this 2 in 1 product locally and he simply went ga ga for it and begged away to use his stashed money to get it. I decided to whip out my smartphone and do a quick search here on Amazon and was able to find it cheaper and with free prime shipping. So after checking in with dad we ordered it. Now because we were able to check it out in store I wasn't concerned about quality or functionality at all. I have been wondering how it would fair against my son though since he's pretty rough and tumble and a huge slob, so things are always getting stepped on and broken in his room. Well this had endured almost 2 months now so I felt it was time to report on it. He still loves it too. He's been taking it to bed every night and setting it on his dresser nearby or somewhere else so its handy. I think kids younger than him could easily work the product too. Frankly all your kid needs is this and an imagination and they'll be occupied for ages.

This is a hefty, well made "2 in 1"... My son adores it and has it on his bookshelf so looks decorative ..well, boy's room decorative :-) when he's not using to play pretend Minecraft. :-) It's well made and changes from sword to the Pickaxe easily. It's not Styrofoam which I was worried it would be..it's plastic but a heavier, nice plastic.. not cheap looking. Great buy.. my son loves it.

This is different than most of the Minecraft sword/pickaxe toys out there, and not just because it "transitions" between the two. It's made of hard, shiny plastic. Foam pieces make up the "transition" parts: small protrusions on the top for the pickaxe, and ridges all along the long edges for the sword. You pull the top, which moves quite easily, and also swap the end you're holding to complete the different looks. One side appears "wooden", per the game's weapon hierarchy, and the other "iron."My son,8, a Minecraft superfan, loved it. He has no problem moving it from thing to thing and it looks better than the similar all-foam toys he has. It's also pretty sturdy, the conversion element is simple to do and has handled some rough 2nd-grade-boy play. It's something a bit different, that not all of his friends have and its proved very popular during playdates as well. The downside, of course, is that it's also quite heavy and if someone were to use it to hit or throw, like mine often do with the foam models, this could do some serious damage to another child, pet, etc. We've stressed this is for looks or posing, NOT play fighting, because even if they are just swinging and don't mean to hit someone, this one could definitely leave a mark.

This is a great product. It is not at all like the other cheap looking ones available. The built is really nice and it converts between the pickaxe and sword swiftly and it intelligently adds rubber/foam tips to the pickaxe and rubber/foam edges to the sword only when they are in respective modes. That feature is very useful so the kids can still use it without hurting their friends. most other surfaces are nicely polished hard plastic and seems to be very durable. My 8 year old is supper happy with this product.

The way it converts is easy and pretty cool. It's pickaxe coloring on one side and sword coloring on the other, but it fits pretty seamlessly. It's made of card plastic, so if your kids are used to play fighting with the foam ones, then this one is a lot more painful. Overall, it's really cool, my son loved it, as did several of his friends.

I don't understand why Mojang toys are so expensive, and this is no exception. Nothing special about these. Hard plastic, so unlike the foam sword, this can hurt others or damage property if a child does not use it with care.

Big hit! This two-in-one toy is surprisingly heavy and well-made. It transforms from a sword to a pick-ax by pushing in the sword handle. Easy enough for our 5 year old to do. There are some hard foam parts on the edges of the sword and tips of the pick-ax, but I still wouldn't hit people or furniture with it!
