Product is quality. Buy from Amazon.
I'm unclear why people are complaining. I sometimes wonder if they have purchased from an alternate vendor other than the default that comes up (default is via Amazon Prime - I purchased from them). The lap counter I received is genuine Scalextric, doesn't feel or look cheap, and fit my 1:32 Scalextric Sport track without ANY issues. Furthermore, the product works flawlessly and functions as it should. My only reservation about not giving it 5 stars is due to the timing and scoring program within the computer. The issues I have are that lap times are only recorded to tenths of a second. This makes lap timing way too uncompetitive and vague. At the least, it ought to score to hundredths. I also wish it had a practice mode where it would simply record and display your lap time, lap after lap. As it stands, you're forced to enter a fixed number of laps you wish to run, which countdown to zero ending the race. This is fine, really, but the inclusion of a practice mode along with more accuracy timing (hundredths) would have shown a bit more polish. As an aside, I decided in the end to program my own timing & scoring computer using an Arduino and associated bits. Proper timing, starting lights, pit stops, practice and race modes, etc. I modified the existing Scalextric computer to allow me to tap into its reed switches to trigger my own computer. The inspiration to improve upon Scalexric's design was worth the price alone.

Well, good..
For anyone interested in this product, I must tell you, the lap counter has a half straight 175 mm atached to it, and came with a converter track (also half straight 175 mm) which allow you to use it either for Scalextric Classic or Sport Track (both analog tracks) And it'll add equal to 1 standard straigth (350 mm) to the lenght of your race car track set..Also description says Incl. X2 175mm Track. But it seems a mistake, because as I said, Lap Counter only has one 175 mm track atached to the counter (whats on the picture) and one straight converter track 175 mm..And this are the contents shown in the printed box.Whats good about it, its that fits almost perfectly (requires a minimum adjustment in some older tracks) with both, older and latter analog tracks thanks to the converter track. And its battery operated ( X2 AA ) so you dont need to plug any cable to enjoy it.

Good for start cars
I have the formula one start set, adding to the track is very easy, the converter track makes it a snap to use the sport track. I bought this item hoping for big results. It works fantastic on the start cars, but not so well on the more expensive ones. The guide flag in the starter cars are just a bit longer which makes it work great; the Guide flags on the better cars are shorter so it does not hit the sensor trip switch when the car passes through. I highly recommend this for the starter set.

Absolute Garbage!
The track felt cheap when I opened it. Then I found it did not fit my Scalextric set and had to cut the trach to try and fit. It still didn't fit properly. And worse than it not fitting, the counter is NOT accurate. It kept missing laps. ABOSULTE RUBBISH!! Do Not Buy this. GO to your Hobby Sote and get the lap counter. That way you're sure to get the one that fits - and works - with your track.

ok, when it works
Pretty good. within 100 laps one of the lanes started missing the count. Have not troubleshooted this yet, would not buy again if the there was a better version it would be worth getting what you pay for.

This is a good lap counter
This is a good lap counter. Sometimes a bit irregular in counting, you just need to ensure the track is connected with no interupts.

Needed work
When I first tried the lap counter it did not work. I took the bottom cover off and moved the wire contacts closer together. I works fine now.
