Think outside the box - this heat gun is also useful for searing foods that have been cooked by the sous vide method.
My use for this heat gun is a bit different than the normal use for it. I watched a YouTube video that this heat gun was used to sear foods cooked by the sous vide method. Those of you familiar with the sous vide method of cooking know that foods are not browned with this method of cooking and browning must be done in a broiler, with a torch, etc. When I mentioned getting a heat gun to my husband, he was all for it as it is something that he had wanted for stripping paint and other jobs he has done. I do have aย Bernzomatic TS8000 - High Intensity Trigger Start Torch ย and aย Searzall Torch Attachment, Small, Stainless , but using them is almost scary. With the torch, I have lined a cookie sheet with Reynolds wrap, and the Reynolds wrap melted. To use a torch in your kitchen, you have to very careful not to set the counter on fire.At any rate, I watched the YouTube video that used this heat gun to sear food, and decided to try it since it was something my husband could also use. You can set the temperature up to 1200 degrees, and can sear meat using the spreader nozzle that seems a lot safer than using a torch in the kitchen. It is much easier to control the direction of the heat, isn't as heavy or large as the torch canister, and doesn't cause the smell on food that a torch sometimes does. This is one of the few tools that both my husband and I can use, and we are both happy with it at this point. If my opinion changes or the heat gun malfunctions, I will be sure to update this review.,

Spewing Metallic Flakes Everywhere!
First of all. I really like this Heat Gun. It has a really incredible temperature range and appears to be very rugged with a really nice construction. It appears to do what it claims, but I am left exceedingly worried. Upon first use, I noticed what appeared to be a paper towel or something blocking the nozzle. I turned the heat gun on (with the fan only) and a TON of metallic looking flakes shot out and got absolutely everywhere. I am left seeing stars and little silver glimmers of material everywhere. What is this stuff?Maybe I got a bad one. I will be returning it to Amazon to hopefully get it exchanged out for a new one. I do really like the fit and feel, as well as the awesome temperature range. If I get a better one, without the metallic rain shower spewing out of it... I will update this review.UPDATE: The replacement I got was just fine. No weird metallic flakes spewing out of it. That being said, I am only giving this heat gun a 4 out of 5 because I feel like the blower fan inside of it isn't powerful enough on the high setting. I'll have to play around with it some more, but it looks like I'll have to adjust the temperature higher for it to do what I want at the lower high fan speed then compared to my Harbor Freight heat gun.

Great Product...Very impressed.
This is by far the most well made, advanced heat gun I've ever seen. Electronic heat sensing actually allows you to dial in a temperature, and then select 1 of 6 fan speeds....while the electronics precisely regulate the air temp regardless of the fan setting. The build quality is very good. It's relatively quiet. It comes with multiple attachments that fit well.I repair vintage and current electronics. Many times in the process of a repair, I need to heat up an area of a circuit board to see if any of the components are in failure or become intermittent at certain temps. I could use my old 1 speed 2 temp gun, but if I wasn't careful, I could melt insulation or damage plastics. With this unit, I can dial in an exact temperature that will heat up the board, without getting too hot. Very cool! Additionally, using heat shrink tubing of various kinds will now be easier, as I can dial in the exact temperature suggested by the heat-shrink tubing mfr., and not worry about burning it or over heating it. Mucho splendideeo.I think I might actually be able to fill large trash bags with hot air and make hot air balloons, without the fear of melting the bag. lol. I'll try that tomorrow.

Deluxe features at a modest price
I purchased this to replace a much more expensive Master Proheat 1200 that broke internally after falling a few feet into a concrete floor. This is a somewhat larger unit than the proheat which is fine if you are using it to blister paint or do some other heavy duty chores. For shrinking tubing and light duty work, smaller and lighter is better. This unit has more of a protective shroud around the hot nozzle, compared to the Proheat. Both this unit and the Master have thick and stiff power cords. I would happily pay an additional $5 to have a flexible silicone rubber insulated cord if it was available. As far as the operation of this heat gun, I have no complaint. The description may be somewhat vague. To clarify, this model has adjustable temperature, and separately adjustable blower speed. The settings are retained even if the unit is turned off or unplugged. The controls well and I don't know what more could be done to advance the product.

Good so far
Used just a few times so far, for some heat-shrink tubing and removing some gummy labels. Worked fine. The ability to control the level of heat was very helpful with shrinking the tubing without damaging paint right behind the tubing. With a bit more use I may well go up to five stars. Several upcoming projects will need this heat gun. Will update as experience teaches.

A Loaded Heat Gun!
Hitachi RH650V Variable Temperature Heat Gun is awesome. Very useful I am using for LCD screen and electronic purposes but it definitely can be use for many different things from melting snow, taking of paint, shrink wrap cars etc. This heat guns has lots of features and it is loaded! {Hehe Loaded gun? Get it :-) } Attachments: Spreader Nozzle, Hook Nozzle, Glass Protector Nozzle, Concentrated Nozzle, Handheld Scraper. I shopped around for heat guns and chose this one because for the same features like variable temperatures, LCD Display, accessories, and Bonus Case (not mentioned in the ad); other brands go for over $100 and over... I think this is the best values and the heat gun is definitely well made.

It works
Works well! I like it. I use it for electronics since it has better temperature control
