Perfect little giant.
Installation was super easy.Didn't fit directly to my current piping, but I knew that before I made my purchase. I am no electrician, but this literally took me 30 minutes to wire. I did get a little confused as to whether keep my current timer. I watched a YouTube video of a guy doing an install on the same model and he used an analog timer which was similar to the one on my old pump. However, an additional timer is not needed, this bad boy comes with it's own timer. Needless to say I removed my old rusty timer off my wall.I am planning on running this thing 15 hours a day only because I have palm trees that are constantly dirtying my pool. 3 hours on max (3000 RPM), 5 hours on medium ( 2100 RPM) and 7 hours on a lower setting (1400 rpm). You can set whatever RPM speeds you desire. I did find that anything below 1200 RPM seemed to be not enough to move the water in my pool. My pool size is about 17,000 gallons. The noise level on this thing is amazingly low even on the highest setting I cannot hear the pump running unless I am close to it. at 2100 RPM you have to stand about 5 feet away to hear it and even then it's low. At 1400 RPM you literally have to put your hand on the pump to make sure it's operating. Night and day compared to my single over-sized (2hp) speed pump.I will update on my energy savings when I get a good idea how much money this thing will save me.(UPDATE)After a few weeks of evaluation I'd thought I'd give an update. My only regret is that I didn't swap my old pump sooner. My electric bill has been estimated at $90.00 down from $136.00 the previous month. I did end up changing some settings such as running for 10 hours only and running my low speed at 2100 rpm and high speed at 3000 rpm. I found that running at 2100 RPM for 8 hours and 2 hours at 3000 RPM is more than enough to circulate my water to keep my pool happy and clean. I've also made sure that I was running within SRP's off peak hours to minimize cost. Conclusion: I am saving roughly 40 dollars a month in electricity, my pump is quite, it was easy to install, and I didn't have to change my lifestyle to save money, I changed to a variable speed pump.THUMBS UP!!UPDATE:It is about to be October 2019 and I am happy to report that this pump is still working like the first day I bought it. Zero failures, it just keeps pumping. At this point it has more than twice pay for itself and if it ever breaks down on me, I know exactly which brand to buy again. I won't be surprised if this thing lasts me another decade

Caveat Emptor
I bought and installed the SP2302VSP almost exactly three years ago today. For the past few years, this pump has been amazing. The variable speeds are great, the built in timer is convenient, and the pump is amazingly quiet. Well, it was quiet until yesterday. When it ran, the pump was making the unmistakable sound of a bearing dying a slow death. At first I tried to see if any repair shops around town would repair the pump motor bearing and replace the pump seals for me. "We don't touch bearings" was the exact phrase both places said. Then I asked how much a replacement motor would cost. This took some time because Hayward doesn't sell the replacement motor by itself without the computer that controls the motor. The one shop that actually got back to me is a Hayward dealer and repair shop and they called Hayward about my problem. This pump is considered a "new" model by them (even though there is a newer model available) and thus they do not offer replacement motors. My option, according to them would be to order the entire motor and computer assembly for thirteen hundred fifty dollars ($1350), which is more than twice what I paid for the entire pump in the first place. I really liked this pump, but now I've decide to run it until it dies and then replace it with a more basic model that can actually be repaired reasonably. I am not sure that pump will be a Hayward.

Great pump very happy with purchase, with one minor drawback.
Pros- Super silent when running on all speeds compared to old pump, I used to turn off the old pump when I had guest over and the radio on because it was a noticeably loud churning sound- This thing is very easy to program and has pretty good presets on the three program buttons that are all customizable.- Power draw is virtually nothing when on 1500 rpm, it showed ~150w being pulled off the 208 circuit, I am expecting a huge drop in my power draw due to the scheduling and lower speed setting.- Seems to move water very well even on the lowest setting the skimmer and water was crystal clear in a 20,000 gallon in ground pool.- Comes with fitting for different size pipes- Easy off lid- Good value for the $$ not sure what a more expensive pump would have really bought me.Cons- Display is VERY hard to read in the daytime, I am also concerned that the buttons and display might wear out from the sun and weather beating on the pool pump all the timeOther Thoughts..Old pump lasted for about 10 years and finally bit the dust, I could have replaced a part on it and paid ~$200 but decided to go ahead and get a new pump since the old one was very power hungry and I didn't have a timer on it so it ran all the time in the summer costing me lots of $$.I am fairly handy and the installation seemed to be extremely easy however I did have it professionally installed due to the extension in the warranty that it provides if you read the manual (3yrs if installed by a hayward pro vs 1 yr if self installed). I also had them install a new flow valve as well since I had temporarily fixed the old one. All in all it cost me $100 to get both the pump and new valve installed and took the guy about 2 hours total due to running pipe a different route. The display and buttons really should have had a plastic flap or something over them that would provide some shade to be able to read it in the daytime and it would have provided protection from weather. I was so concerned about this I got some 2x4's and plywood and built a little shelter over the entire pump to keep the sun and rain from hitting it as much, I would HIGHLY recommend either doing this or buying a aftermarket cover that would fit this unit if that exist.
