Q: Can I change measurement from inches to meters?

You can but I can't tell you precisely how because the instructions are not very clear (at least to me). It seems to involve pressing and holding down the top RED key until the display the display comes up which will either signify ft and inches or metres. Then pressing the third button - the black one - until the desired standard, ft or metres is shown. Experiment till you get what you want! Vague answer, but it is possible.

Q: Is it necessary to calibrate, instructions are not clear to me.?

self calibration function Long press on button for 4 seconds, the screen display ‘boob’, continue to press on for 2 seconds, the ‘CRL.0’ will display, short press on to add or subtract the range with -7~7mm, then press off button to save the setting.

Q: Will this work outside? I read a review saying it wont...
