Nice Quality Trellises...But Take A Little Work!
We recently built a 12' x 16' storage building and elected not to put windows on the back side for security reasons. Because of the plain gray wall that faces my neighbor's house we wanted to improve the appearance...especially since he sees the rear of the storage building from his kitchen window. After considering several options we purchased two of the Dura-Trel 11191 Melrose Trellises and attached them to the siding. The trellises were shipped in sturdy boxes and all the parts were included. It took one person four innings of Atlanta Braves baseball to assemble and other than a few glitches they went together with ease. A couple of things to keep in mind. If you are assembling them by yourself, it is much easier to lean them against a wall, lay the side rail on the floor and let the wall brace the interior horizontal rails. Also, be sure and measure the curved top piece overhang to make sure it is even on both sides before screwing the pieces together. Also, for some odd reason, lots of super glue worked better than silicone for securing the decorative top caps. Finally, there is some play in the trellis so we used a level to make sure it was straight vertically when it was installed. The trellises were attached to the building with 2 inch stainless steel "L" brackets and screws. We did not use the included metal sections (ground anchors). Over all, the assembly and installation were fairly easy.Nice, well made, and durable trellises. We would feel confident in purchasing additional Dura-Trel products in the future!

These are super well made and sturdy
If your are hesitant don't be. I read all reviews before purchase. You don't need to widen any slat holes...it has to be kept square when putting together is all..if the slats don't want to go through step back and square everything up. Pay attention to the directions..the horizontal slats have two types..the bottom me is one sided..put that one on the bottom! The verticals slats have two types...the long ones go in the middle. It does NOT require two people to put together..just ample flat working room. For the screws...there ARE predrilled holes on one side...These are super well made and sturdy. I purchased three. The first took about 12 minutes to put together because I didn't realize the above. The last I timed..4 minutes 32 seconds. WORTH EVERY PENNY. Enjoy!

I love these (yes
I am perplexed by the reviewers who said this was difficult to assemble. I'm a woman and I assembled the first one in 30 minutes without tools and without reading the instructions, and the second one in less than 20 minutes. I love these (yes, I bought two of them) and am contemplating buying a third!

Stupid Assembly Directions
Easy to assemble IF.... Wouldn't it be great if manufacturers actually tried to follow their assembly directions? I've just assembled 3 Melrose Trellises but have not yet installed them in the yard. They seem to be sturdy. And they're easy to assemble as long as you DON'T follow the instructions. The directions say to begin with the right post, insert the bottom cross-rail, insert the other cross rails, insert the vertical slats [by threading them through the cross rails], then insert the bent top rail. They include a diagram which suggests the bent rail practically installs itself. Good luck! The instructions don't call for 2 assemblers, but maybe with 2 assemblers and an afternoon to devote to frustration you can do it that way. With one assembler, start with the right post, insert the BENT TOP CROSS RAIL first and then the other cross rails, thread the vertical slats through those cross rails, and THEN install the bottom cross rail. You'll need to elevate the trellis high enough so that the right overhang of the bent rail doesn't touch the ground --the shipping box reinforced with books will serve as a platform. Once you've done that, adding the left post is easy--even for one person. You will definitely need PVC cement, super glue or gorilla glue for the post caps and the end caps of the bent rail.

Poor construction and design
The top horizontal bar, which is curved, has four slots that the vertical slats fit into. The two inside vertical slats are longer than the two outside slats. The slots that were cut into the top horizontal bar were about 1/2 inch too far to the inside, and getting the slat into the slot required me to bend the slat to the point I was concerned I was going to break the slat. Once in the two slats curved rather stay straight (hopefully the vine growing on the trellis will hid this defect) If you want to have this freestanding mounted in the ground do not count on the "stakes" provided. They are U shaped pieces of vinyl which do not fit tightly into the two main side rails; when you use these "stakes" your whole trellis will wobble back and forth. Finally, I believe I received a unit which had already been returned; one end was closed with two stables while the other was taped closed but with the telltale holes where staples had previously been. All in all, I am very disappointed.

Sturdy and attractive trellis
Very attractive trellis. Not hard to put together if you follow the directions exactly. I did it by myself. However it would be handy to have a little help. I wish they had included hardware to attach it to a building. The height and weight seems to warrant the attachment to a building. I'm attaching mine 4 inches away so that my climbing hydrangea will be supported. Also, you need some sort of exterior glue which they do not provide. For the price of this I would think it would be included. You only need an ounce. Super glue worked fine. They don't weave their way through the openings like some plants do. That is another reason to attach it to a building. I could have installed it with cement and would not need to attach it to anything. But I have no experience with it. Also, directions suggested putting into the ground pretty far. I have a rocky yard and it is pretty difficult to dig down more than 8 inches.
