Did the job
I dissolved mine in everclear to make a non-toxic finish. I've never made or used shellac before but after much research this was exactly what I was hoping for!

Don't use too much
The flakes are as advertised -- yellow. If you apply multiple coats to build up the film it will be way too yellow. Instead, apply one or two coats of lemon and then switch to clear for additional coats. The lemon really works great with dark woods like walnut. It gives a aged look so it is also great for antique restoration.
