I have numerous Makita 18v tools, all purchased new. This hammer drill was a splurge purchase, so I went with the "renewed" offering. No original packaging, as expected, but everything was there, and in essentially "new" condition. I have already used this tool on a non-trivial lighting installation involving drilling about 20 holes in concrete pillars. Performance was exactly as expected.I do want to comment on other reviews of this tool, new or renewed. Several well-meaning and excited reviewers mentioned the power and speed of Makita hammer drilling. Basically true, but I respectfully urge users, especially new users, to understand the torque of this fine tool and slow down. Light pressure works and is safe. And protect hands and eyes. Love Makita, and very happy with this purchase.

This drill is fantastic. Torque-y as can be, has a fantastic made in Japan all-metal chuck, and built like a tank. I bought this drill primarily for metalwork, and boy has it delivered. Aluminum cuts like butter, drilling and tapping a 3/8-16 thread 3/4 deep takes maybe 30 seconds. The chuck grips like a madman and it runs absolutely true. Taps don't slip, and you can put a 1 ft long bit and spin it at 2000 rpm with no discernable wobble at the end. The quality and performance are there, and for $115 renewed... this just can't be beat.

Very good drill. Good handle/grip & engagement. Strong, smooth does the job.One of my favorite drill/drivers ( I own Makita, Milwaukee & Bosch)Controls are solid, the only complaint and it's a small one is about the chuck. It seems to ratchet and freeze up when fully bottomed out. I don't know if this is normal. I purchased a reconditioned drill/driver.Works fine otherwise.

This thing is fantastic. I have the other standard Makita drills but bought this one to get through concrete. Absolutely no issues doing that; however, the handle was useless. Originally put it on thinking it'd provide more leverage but it just made me drill at more of an angle. So, it came off & I haven't look back. Though I did notice my battery drain a bit faster w/ this. But that's what happens w/ more power.

bought this to replace a cheaper but very similar Makita drill purchased about 6 months ago. The previous drill had problems with the chuck which finally just broke.I had purchased the extended insurance so I was able to return it. This drill is much more solid with a all metal chuck, well worth the extra money

I love this drill. It is powerful enough to take on most jobs. Use the handle when drilling through thick wood or metal. If this thing gets in a bind it can hurt you quickly. I am very happy with this drill. It is a little heavy but not bad. It has a solid feel and and gets the job done. I recommend this drill.

Got the renewed one. Looks and works like brand new (inital test only and will find out in a few days if its sturdy enough) No visible scratches or anything. Quite heavy with battery but not bothered by it . Recommend this one although it did not come in manufacturer packaging as advertised. Buy renewed and save some $$$.
