Canton DM 76 Soundbar - Virtual Surround System 2.1 - Black Glass

This is a fantastic sound base for the money; in fact it’s a Which Best Buy for 2019. Construction is sturdy and with the glass top, it exudes quality. Two 50mm midrange and two 19mm tweeters face forward behind a perforated metal grille whilst two 100mm woofers are fixed in the base. The overall effect is very good, not too brassy and the facility to enhance voices is great - since starting to use the unit, we haven’t had to look at each other and say “what was that?” when watching a film! (Our hearing is pretty good normally!) We are using the DM60 with a five years old Panasonic TX-42AS650B television - it was simple to connect the TV’s digital output socket to the unit using the optical cable supplied in the box. Make sure that you firstly remove the tiny protective plastic caps on both the plugs before carefullly checking which way the plugs are inserted - there is a rounded side and a flat side to each plug. This processs is a bit fiddly to work out because the sockets on both the set and the unit have a spring loaded cover. Don’t use force if it does not fit immediately, just try the other way round! Once connected, the unit worked straight away, but there are a couple of things to do to the TV; first, switch off those tinny TV speakers by going into the menu and finding the speaker setting option on the sound menu. The other thing which I did was to set an option called “SPDIF” on the sound menu to ”PCM” (pulse code modulation) which is the standard format for sending digital audio signals between devices. There are lots of setup options which are easy to set using the remote control - read the manual and pick what’s best for you. All in all, a seismic step in improved TV sound. By the way, the manual says that the unit can support TVs of up to 40kg - our 42” LED set weighs in at just over 11kg.

This is a genuinely impressive piece of kit, the sound quality is very good for music, speech and film. I'm especially happy with the way it handles surround, happily throwing film effects around different parts of the room. Works very well for music too, the bluetooth connects easily and the quality for spotify and amazon music is excellent. Very happy with the ease of set up, while the remote control is simple, and very strongly built.Be a little careful if you're placing a tv directly on top of it - although it's designed for this as an option, it can be a little slippy if you aren't watchful.Very happy with the purchase.

Sound on this is clear, sharp and rich. Bass is excellent. I've had a couple of soundbars (including Sonos Beam) and this blows them away. Very neat, no massive wiring job to speakers all over the room and the tv sits nicely on top - nothing blocking the TV remote sensor. Remote control has a comforting heft. Quite pleased but maybe a bit pricey. Main thing to note is this is NOT a surround sound system, it's a major upgrade to flat screen speakers. If you want to watch telly and hear it, this is great but if you want to immerse yourself in a movie and hear sound effects behind you, buy a surround sound system.

The unit is easy to set up, I have linked it to my TV and Sky box, volume for all now working off the Sky handset. I am no expert but the sound quality is great. I can now hear speech much more easily, especially when there is background noise on films for example. I have previously owned a sound bar that was the same make as my previous TV, this unit is far better and out performs the previous one. I really am enjoying the sound this unit produces!!

Great product. For what you get it is cheap. Everything about it reeks quality. The remote is milled aluminium by the looks and heft of it. The sound bar is just really really solid with a nice piano black mirror finish. Incredible at this price point. The sound is top notch. I bought this after buying an LG sound bar to go with my OLED tv for £469. It sucked so I got this instead for half the price. I am glad I did. Dialogue is intelligible and natural, bass is solid, and it has a neat trick of making the sound seem far from the tv in surround mode. Songs through Spotify sound really good. I am picky about sound but this is, in every respect, a home run.

I purchased this soundbar principally to listen to music from TV and DVD etc. (classical, song, jazz etc). It is very solidly made; strong and well finished. It is designed for the TV to stand on the unit and the bass frequency speakers are internal to the unit so there is no requirement for additional 'woofers'.It has all the necessary input and output connections, optical, digital, RCA etc. The remote is simple to use and provides all required control. The sound quality is superb throughout the frequency range and is crystal clear without any muffle and without any background noise. When selected, the surround effect is surprisingly good considering no distributed speakers are attached. I have not tried the unit with additional speakers yet. I am very pleased with this purchase, excellent quality with all the usual hallmarks of German precision!

I made this purchase in the hope that the quality and clarity of speech and dialogue would be improved on a 43in Samsung tv.The speakers on so-called smaller tvs e.g.up to 43inch, are positioned behind or underneath and as new models have replaced older ones, they have become ever thinner with speakers ever more ineffective. If wall-mounted, quality is better. But to have on a stand, the sound quality is useless.Whilst the quality of music and sound effects are both enhanced, there is little improvement in speechquality.The sub-woofer does provide an extra dimension; a cinema-like experience. Plenty of bass.And the music quality is good.However the controls on the remote for bass and treble don't seem to work.Speech is quite often out of sync with the picture, especially on news programmes,The sound base is connected directly to the tv, so I do not know what would be the cause of that.I have yet to experience sound when using the DVD player.So overall, this a solidly made sound base giving good music and great sound effects, but I would not recommend this model, particularly if it's clarity of speech you are seeking.
