Rome's #4100 Super Duty Wiener Fork, Chrome Plated Steel

I ordered 6 of these fine Weiner forks to put in an Adirondack Lean-To for the use of all who stop by. They are wonderful and first of all they came with all 6 in one box and a smoore's maker for over the fire in the same box. I build a lot of stuff and fabricate lots of things and I have to disagree with those that say these forks are a little light etc. I used one 1 hour after opening the box and I slid 3 Hot Dogs on there and could have cooked 5 at once. The very wide about 9" prongs were so easy to use and would hold enough Mars Mellows to last you a week. I rested the shaft of the fork on the edge of the fire pit and lightly turned the wooden handle and what an easy job it was to cook with this item. The trick is to rest the 41" item (48" is 4 feet) and you have a very strong item and you aren't holding it straight out to even cause it to bow, but I doubt it would bend at all..? I added a Smore's rack with this order and a Popcorn Pot to use in this Lean-To also. Anyone that comes by even if I am not around is welcomed to use it all and clean the items and hang them up for the next person or group. I know that I will get many years out of these fine forks. These are the best I have seen in modern days. My Grandpa had ones that were from twisted heavy wire and you could never bend them but they were in the over kill dept. for this light work. Imagine my surprise in just how long these roasting forks were, in spite of the length being disclosed. The fork has worked out pretty good for cooking over a fire, be it a fire pit or a camp fire. The length ensures that you don't get too toasty while cooking a hotdog or a marshmallow. Cooking a hotdog - not a problem. I found that the fork, as is, didn't quite hold one of those hugh campfire marshmallows. While it was okay on one tine, the problem of the rotating marshmallow as it toasted arose. As big as those marshmallows are, they weren't big enough to be pierced by both tines. I ended up squeezing in the tines to close the gap between the tines a bit. After the fork had been heated by the fire, it was easier to squeeze the tines together to close the gap. I'd give the fork 5 stars if the gap was just bit smaller between the tines. Otherwise it turned out to be a pretty good campfire fork.

As a child I enjoyed roasting marshmallows' and hot dogs over an open fire but the old un-twisted coat hanger left a lot to be desired. Not only did it sometimes bring you uncomfortably close to the flame but the coating couldn't possibly be "healthy". When I saw these extra long wiener forks I decided to give them a try...what a nice item! These are well built, solid and sturdy. Each fork has two extra long prongs and a solid wood handle that allows young and old alike to remain a safe distance from the flame while roasting hot dogs, marshmallows or anything else. The prongs are oversized/extra long so can fit those super-dogs that are so popular - or more marshmallows than you would want to ingest at one sitting. Very pleased - great items that brings safety to a time tested favorite past-time...get ready for summer or break out the firepit on those cool winter nights...great item!

It has a nice wood handle, leather strap for hanging when not in use. It is a one piece unit, while there are other models that telescope to different lengths. I prefer this type, as the extending feature makes the fork more delicate and it can break too easy. This one is just more durable. The metal is thicker than most roasting forks. We used it for both marshmallows and for hot dogs. I did leave it a bit too long in the heat once and a prong on the fork seemed to warp a bit, so don't forget it in the fire. It does clean up real nice. My fork arrived quickly in two weeks after I ordered it from Amazon.com.

This product worked great as we were looking for something that allowed us to not be so close to the fire.However -- I was very disappointed to see that these are from Rome Industries in Peoria, IL, BUT ARE MADE IN CHINA! I always try to buy USA. I wish Amazon would do more to try and promote more USA products. Surely there is a company that can make sturdy hot dog roasters in the States that could be featured on Amazon. If you also try to not buy from China, then you might want to look elsewhere and not order these.

Nice heavy duty roasting forks. Yes they are long but absolutely great for campfires. We have a fire pit and have used these quite a bit. Great for roasting hot dogs and sausages but we have done potatoes and steaks as well. I even roasted corn on the cob with these - delicious. Marshmallows slide around too much so we use plain old sticks for those.

I purchased a pair of these forks to use at our outdoor firepit. They work really well, good and strong.

This fork was so great, I had to buy more! The length is great for anyone who doesn't want to stand so close to the fire. I also like that it does not fold or telescope, as it seems that piece might break, or get incredibly covered with soot. The fork is sturdy, heavy-duty and the handle is tough. It's great for hotdogs, marshmallows, strawberries, or anything else you want to roast in a bonfire. It has made a great Father's Day gift for both my husband and my dad.
