happy with my little scribey thingy
i build model cars and found this great for deepening panel lines, and for removing parts like doors, hoods, or trunks, with more precision than a hobby saw could. sharpness, safety, and ease of use are what i wanted in a scribing tool, and tamiya quality delivered as always. what makes this tool a greater value than other scribes is 1) it's a two-way blade that you can either push or pull, and i've found use in both, and 2) the retractable, lockable blade is important for a paranoid safety freak like myself. i'm especially pleased with the durability; i've been using this for a year and a half and am still on my first blade. i totally forgot there was a compartment of two spares until i looked at the photo on this product page.tip for the novice: if you watch builds and tutorials on youtube, you'll see builders applying downward pressure when scribing. you DO NOT need to do this. it's sharp enough that simply gliding it along the channel will accomplish what you're trying to do. added pressure just increases the likelihood you'll jump the channel and scratch your model. easy does it.

Clean lines
Tamiya makes fantastic stuff, this little scriber works amazing. Either cutting new (sanded off) panel lines, or clearing seams on your cars, the scribe cuts a clean line. The blade clears clogged or obscured panel lines, providing a solid line and clear definition. A great investment for your hobby.

Tool does what it is supposed to do.
Works great, but you will likely need to practice and it really helps to have a guide, like masking tape to keep you from loosing your line.Go slow and deliberately and it creates a very nice panel line. Go to quickly or without a guide and you will have a mess.

Simple, well made, efficient. Not massively ergenomic of you have delicate hands, but precise!
So this hold and feels much like a simple exacto knife, not uncomfortable but not overly ergenomic. I find it's smaller handle while less molded for comfort, very compact and controllable and don't miss any curved or padding for that advantage. The blades it came with are good and sharp, free of rust and store internally including the reserves. The locleng mechanism is tightening knob which is fond vibrates less and is sturdier than latch mechanism so I'm glad it uses that instead. Good buy!

Safe cutting modeling knife for parting doors, hoods even trunks
I have been working on opening doors, trunks etc on model cars. This tool does well cutting a fine thin line so the model parts fit back together and look good without a huge gap. I have a couple of these I use them in different parts of my house. I have never cut myself using this, I wish I had it when I was a kid, it would have saved me from so many cuts, I was always bleeding or healing from a cut sometimes very deep. Excellent for a kid just getting into building model cars, trucks, tanks, ships even airplanes.

Nice tool
Great tool comes with extra blades easy to use

Very sharp but easy to use
Worth it for cheaper model kits with less than defined body lines, be careful as it is very sharp & easy to scratch the body.
