Cure? Not sure. Good food? Yes.
When I got this I was hesitant at first because my lovebird was very stubborn during the transition from seeds to pellets. But eventually he gave in. He loves the maintenance line of Roudybush but has had issues with feather plucking for years now (It started before the transition). I took him to the vet a couple of times but they said he is perfectly healthy other than not wanting to keep his feathers. I tried the Roudybush Rice Diet because I thought maybe the wheat or corn was causing some issues. I didn't go in thinking this would be a cure all. I also knew if I really wanted to try it I would need to keep him eating the same food for at least 3 months but probably 6 months before seeing any difference. Well... it's been two months and he has more feathers now than he did when we switched the diet. Coincidence? Causation? Correlation? I don't know, only time will tell. I'll come back and update in a few months. Either way, I gave this a 5 star rating because my picky bird loves it and it's healthy. He eats all of it. Just make sure you get the right size for the specific bird you have.

Two of my cockatiels like this, but the rest of my birds aren't interested. I just added it to the regular Roudybush to give it a try, rather than making it their regular food. My cockatoo grows feathers now faster than he can pluck them with the "small" size of the rice diet.

The birds will rate it as OK. They're not in to the rice diet pellets.

All my conures like it, and it seemed to help a bit ...
This is the only pelleted diet I could get my birds to switch to. We also have a feather chewer and it was on a long list of foods to try. All my conures like it, and it seemed to help a bit with the feathers. It also didn't cause kidney problems in my 20 year old conure, which we've had problems with in the past. The birds really like it.

Tried this product for my Eclectus
My female Eclectus was a rescue and she has been plucking since before coming to my possession. I have been trying to find ways to help her to quit and changing her diet was one of the suggested ways to help her. She was only having seeds when I got her and I was able to successfully add fruits and vegetables to her diet. However, this did not help with her plucking ways. I used the product in the beginning slowly adding it to her seeds but I could see that she was crushing it and dumping it on the bottom of her cage daily only eating the seeds. I continued to reduce the seeds anyway in hope that she will cave in and eat it if it became the only option but that did not happen! After 3 days I had to give her some seeds again and continued to add some to her seeds so that she can see it and hopefully start to try it. I did the same thing again in about a week and a half cutting the seeds out again but the same thing happened. I used this product until the bag finished and I gave up on trying to switch my bird to it! This product did NOT help at all!!! Plucking continues!

Small size more popular with our birds
This diet is similar in size and shape to the cockatiel-sized Zupreem regular diet. We purchased both mini and small for our Goffin's cockatoo to try and the small size was much more popular (it is a wafer, about the size of a penny).

CAG Loves These Pellets!
I have an African Grey that is a feather chewer. Not too bad, but just enough to make herself look like she's having a bad feather day some days. Someone recommended the Roudybush Rice Diet to me. She has always been on some form of pellets, along with her veggies, nuts, some fruits, and other healthy foods. This time around she went from Harrison's pellets to this pellet. The Roudybush Rice Diet is recommended for parrots that might have food allergies to some of the ingredients in other pellets. She has only been eating the Rice Diet for about 2 weeks. She really likes this pellet so it will be added to her permanent list of foods. I am hoping that it will help her with the feather destruction too. If it does, I will post an update in the future so others can have the information.
