Refill your Geigerrig Pressurized Hydration Engine from a river, stream, lake or pond. This plug-n-play, in-line water filter snaps directly into the Geigerrig Hydration Reservoir, with the drink tube snapping into the other end of the filter. Your Geigerrig Hydration Reservoir is already set up and ready for this filter. Refill from water found along the trail, pressurize the Geigerrig reservoir, and filter water as you go. The Geigerrig filter removes Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Bacteria, and Viruses. The top of the filter screws off, allowing you to remove the filter cartridge, clean out the filter, and replace the cartridge. Replacement filter cartridges are available for purchase. Filtration Technology incorporates a unique combination of the most advanced filtration techniques and media science. This design and manufacturing method has been thoroughly tested and certified by independent laboratories to consistently remove protozoan cysts, bacteria, and virus to ANSI/NSF Standard 52, and US EPA standards without the use of disinfecting chemicals such as chlorine, bromine, or iodine. BVR Mixed Media filters provide high flows and long service life in the most compact, lightweight cartridge available today. BVR Filter Technology meets or exceeds ANSI/NSF Standard 53 for removal of Protozoan, Cysts, Bacteria, and Virus. Activated Coconut Shell Carbon reduces waterborne chemicals, improves taste and eliminates offensive odors. Suppresses the growth of bacteria, algae, fungus, mold and mildew within the filter media. Protozoan Cysts (Cryptosporidium): Greater than or equal to 99.9% Per ANSI/NSF 53. Virus (MS-2 Bacteriophage): Greater than or equal to 99.9999% Per ANSI/NSF 53. Chlorine Removal: Greater than or equal to 99.99% Per ANSI/NSF 53. Meets or Exceeds ANSI/NSF 42. 100 gallons / 378 L. 5.75 inches long X 1.5 inches in diameter. Super light-weight.

I like the Geigerrig bladder system
I like the Geigerrig bladder system, but not with this in-line filter. I tried using it backpacking in the Wind Rivers and I was forced to suck water through the filter as there is not enough pressure to get good flow through this filter, which took away all the advantages of a pressurized bladder system. It improved if I bent down to keep the bite valve as far below the bladder as possible, but it still required sucking. It did work "okay" as a reservoir system in camp so long as I kept the bite valve as low as possible below the bladder to allow gravity assist to help water flow. But while backpacking, I didn't like it and eventually went to my water bottle to get adequate water. I think Geigerrig should be more transparent in what to expect from this filter with their bladder system.

Must have!
I was backpacking in the wilderness and the only source of water that we could find was a trickling stream that had tons of green algae in the larger pools of water. This thing worked like a charm. In fact, the water passing through the filter tasted better than the water that I had brought with me from home.

but it looks well built and easy to use
Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it looks well built and easy to use. The reason for the missing star is that the filter doesn't take all the bad stuff out of the water. Geirgerrig makes no mention of it filtering toxic minerals or alpha and beta particles.I'll likely buy one again when this one needs to be replaced

Great way to ensure you have potable water with your Geigerrig
Great way to ensure you have potable water with your Geigerrig. Just plug it in to the reservoir then pug in the drinking tube. I like "belt and suspenders" using a SteriPen to UV treat the water in the reservoir. I will have to see how this works in the winter. Probably I will have to decant the filtered water into a clean container then store the filter against my body - empty the reservoir.

Better prepared than not.
Doesn't alter the taste. One of the very few online filters that will remove virus'. It does restrict the flow of water but I have found that every inline filter will do the same. I also like that the filters are replaceable. Bought a two pack of filters as well. Always good to be prepared.

I LOVED this thing when it was working
I LOVED this thing when it was working, but after a few times of use (maybe the fourth time), it stopped working. What I mean is that it wouldn't pass water from the pouch to the hose. I took it apart to see if there was any gunk or anything blocking the filter (nope). Maybe I did something wrong, I don't know...but I was really relying on the filter for a multiple-week backpacking trip and it sucked to have it break down in the middle of the trip.

... really well with the hydration engine and it's really easy to click it in and out
Works really well with the hydration engine and it's really easy to click it in and out. The pressure in the system drops markedly with the filter in place so you will need to suck to pull water through the mouthpiece and cannot rely on the pressure pump to push water through.

like it
I just wanted to post that i have talked Geigerrig about how on the packaging it says 50 gallons verse 100 that it says online and they assured me that the virus filter is for 100 gallons. I really like the filter especially how it connects and how many gallons it can do. i also like how i can just put the water in my bag and not have to pump it like other water filters i have really looked into and wanted to buy. It does seem to take a lot of taste out of the water and that makes it even better than the tablets. I would suggest this to a friend.
